About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To enjoy life as best I can

ABOUT ME

I'm not the life of the party, but I know how to be silly and have fun in other ways.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've done two couchsurfing trips, to Switzerland, and Vancouver, Canada. Everyone I've met couchsurfing has been unbelievably friendly and helpful. I also hosted a bunch in Portland, OR.

Interests

Language technology: I'm doing a masters in it at CMU at the moment.

Linguistics. I'm pitifully unable to speak anything but English, but I know tons of random tidbits about different languages.

Bicycling. Currently this is my primary mode of transportation. Also good exercise, and good fun.

I like playing games, especially interesting board games, and I'm always interested in learning new ones.

I love to eat! One of my favorite things about traveling is trying new and exciting foods. I can also tell you all the best cheap places to eat in New York or Portland.

I like playing music. I play violin, viola, and a little snare drum. I particularly like contra dance style tunes and Gilbert and Sullivan operettas.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

When I traveled in the Galapagos, I saw the most amazing night sky. We were on a boat, miles from everything, and the number of stars and the amount of light they provided floored me. Living in the city, searching for stars in the night sky is fun, but I've always hoped to have a chance to go somewhere completely dark and see a sky like that again.
