About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Listen, be humble, respond to intuition.

ABOUT ME

I rarely stay put in one place for long and have spent most of my twenties travelling and working in as many different countries and cultures as possible, resulting in a plethora of wonderful and enriching experiences. Captivated by the mysticism and adventure of Iran, I just left what become ‘home’ after three years working there, intercepted by some travels. In retrospect I think this can be considered as one of the more rooted periods of my life ;) I'm currently working with MSF in D.R.Congo...

Recently I've been spending extended periods of time in Georgia (the country), scoping it out as a potential base because it offers so many things that I look for in having a fulfilling life, namely high quality walnuts, sweet wine and perfect ski terrain...and that's just scratching the surface. ;)

WHAT TO EXPECT

Feet are like cars, only better, so if i'm not behind my laptop or cooking up something weird, you'll find me running, walking or cycling wherever possible. We were born to move and explore and it still seems odd to me when people don't show much interest in either.

I'm easy going and adaptable to whatever is going on around me, but I also tend to always go my own way in the end. I guess I don't let things get in the way of what I really want or what I know will make me happy. I believe we are largely responsible in shaping our own destinies.

I love nature.
I love music.
...and how both can change your mood so easily.

I like new things and variety, which is why travel and meeting new people is such an integral part of my life.
My adventures over the years have helped teach me that in spite of the hostilities and destruction in this world, there are some amazing, inspiring people still around. As a friend once said to me some years ago, "everyone has something to offer", and I find myself constantly reminded that it's true. CS provides a great platform for open conversation and to share new cultural experiences.

PHILOSOPHY

It's not about the action, it's about the feeling.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I try to do my bit in return for all the fantastic experiences and open generosity I've had being hosted around the world.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Experiencing 150 elephants at India's biggest elephant festival in Thrissur. "Guests are our Gods", my CS host kept telling us. We were spoilt rotten by his hospitality and guided tour of the festivities...and his mum's mango smoothie was to die for.

Interests

Cycle touring, travel photography, swimming with goggles and cap, sustainable living, going out, staying in, snowboarding, befriending dogs, teaching yoga, hot spiced cider, recycling, nibbling, climbing mountains, creating things (cards, cakes, plans, tree houses), masala chai, camping, exploring consciousness, sunny winter days, running in natural spaces, getting shit done, snowboarding...oh
I already mentioned that.., flexitarianism, travel (of course!), breathtaking views, music festivals.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I prefer to see it as amazing things doing things that amaze me?

- Long distance cycle trips are the best way to see a country; not too fast, not too slow. I’ve enjoyed peddling my way around Iran's islands, Cuba, France, Sweden, India, UK, Ireland, Sicily etc.

- First cars are supposed to be special right? I bought a little orange VW Campervan in Mexico, aka Speedy Gonzalez, and did a 5 month road trip from S.Mexico to San Francisco with my boyfriend at the time. Regular mechanical hiccups (like daily...) but unforgettable wild camping spots and all the independence of van life. Armed with a stove, pan and tea, what more do you need? Speedy is now sitting in storage in Amsterdam in desperate need of an electrical genie to work some magic. Any takers?

- Sitting on top of Stromboli volcano in Sicily and watching it spit out explosions of lava, rocks and gas.

- Summiting the highest mountain in the Middle East, Mt. Damavand in Iran close to the winter season. At 5,670m that was a great test of physical and emotional stubbornness, but god that’s a beautiful mountain.
