About Me

I work as a bartender. I like to travel. These things are always a bit strange. How do you sum yourself up in a couple of paragraphs? Like, who am I even talking to? The things I could tell you about myself that one person might find interesting might bore the hell out of you. Give it a shot. Let's talk. I'm sure we can find something in common that we both like to discuss. I think I can count on one hand the number of times I've started talking to someone and just couldn't find anything to talk to them about. The thing about a good conversation is reciprocity. Just listening or just speaking isn't a conversation. Listen, digest, expound.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I've met some really great people people on my travels. I've met so many people that just really love their city and get excited to share that with me.

I'm pretty new to couchsurfing. Right now I'm traveling around SEA. And the people here are wonderful. The people that I've contacted in the US though, some go so far as to be intentionally rude just because I'm new to this and have few friends and references. Everyone has to start somewhere, right. When I get to Denver I'm only going to host new members. After all, for as much as people throw around the word "open-minded" doesn't part of that mean helping people out and being kind to them even if they're just trying something out that you've been doing for a while?

Interests

I'm into anything with two wheels. Motorcycle trips are my thing. I ride bicycles as my day-to-day transportation. I like mountain bikes for recreation. And then motorcycles. Ah. Getting on a bike and riding is my catharsis. If I feel sad or depressed, I ride. If I feel giddy or anxious, I ride. If everything is going just fine, I ride.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I went out to a small village in the North of Laos on a tip that there was a huge undeveloped cave there. Most of the road was dirt and very washed out and challenging even for an experienced motorcycle rider. After a few hours I got there and met a local guide. That night I stayed at his parents house and we ate and drank together. We spent the next day trekking through this massive cave system: 12 km of dry cave and 6 km of river. That night we went to a village party and drank rice wine out of earthenware pots with bamboo straws and ate and drank and danced.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you how to make pasta. I'd like to find people to practice my Spanish with. I can share my experiences of traveling SEA, food, wine and beverage knowledge and general life experiences. These things all really depend on people, though, don't they? I could share with you all about the processes of distilling whiskey and the regional differences throughout the US, but maybe you don't like whiskey, so we'd talk about something else instead. Existentialism. Woodworking. Economics. Astronomy. Fishing. I'm sure we'd find something in common.
