COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Only two guests so far but am a member of the Hospitality Club and have had several guests from HC. With my husband have also traveled through workaway.info and WWOOF, the former most recently in Albania and Croatia. We also did home exchanges, and I hope to do this on my own in the future. When I do decide to resume hosting I'm limited in how often. My primary interest as a host is in hosting couchsurfers who are visiting from countries other than the U.S. and Canada, and who need a place to stay during their travels. The same is true if I were to look for hosts: I'd be looking primarily throughout Europe and the middle east.

I am a nonfiction writer (life stories that are mostly true); choral singer: have sung for ten years in the Portland Christmas Revels and during the off-season sing in a Renaissance/Baroque choral group; amateur recorder player, mostly early music; avid reader, theatregoer, and English Country dancer. Activities I enjoy: being with my children and grandchildren and friends; cooking and entertaining; traveling in non-scripted ways that allow me to experience a country and its people in very personal ways. My husband was a committed gardener and I am now following his remembered gardening advice.

Film: Antonioni, Renoir, Fellini, plus contemporary European and Israeli films.Anything with Meryl Streep or George Clooney.

The most amazing thing I've done was to produce three interesting, productive and independent children. The second most amazing thing I've done was to serve in the Peace Corps at age 61 with my husband--the best two years of my life. The third was getting my M.A. in English at age 65 (after Peace Corps)--the next best two years of my life. The fourth most amazing experience was teaching for one year in a small-town gymnazium in the Czech Republic with my husband (after getting my M.A.). I continue to have startling, intense experiences both in travel and in ordinary life, and they last way more than minutes.
