ABOUT ME

I'm a pretty positive and energetic person. I really love learning and discovering from new people, places, foods, adventures... I moved to Brazil because I wanted to see what this place was really like and by being open to almost everything, I have been getting acquainted with Brazil for the last ten years.
I love to talk to my friends, cooking is a passion, I can't live without a bicycle, I'm not a city person (living by the beach saves me), I can stay up late but I'm a morning person, I like cleanliness and order but can relax about them too...

PHILOSOPHY

I try to listen and really hear. I love living my life honestly and with integrity. Prefer humble, genuine things and people rather than glitzy. I get off on understanding and bridging differences.

Most of the best things in life are free.

Acceptance (but not complacency) seems to make life a lot easier and deeper.

The great socio-economic disparity here in Brazil makes me sad.

I'm really a teacher, through and through.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

My apartment is small and I only have one bedroom but can offer a couch or a hammock on the terrace. I love to meet new people and to share my enthusiasm for and knowledge of the many amazing activities and places in and around Rio. I usually know of some live music or art event going on in the city and am happy to find people who want to join me on my outings and adventures. I'll take you out to join the really rootsy samba scene!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Despite my small home, I have welcomed many friends and friends of friends who have passed through Rio. Some stay for a night, others for months. I love the company and the closeness that comes from sharing the routines of daily living: teethbrushing, meals, etc.

Interests

Biking, cooking and eating (especially healthy, Asian and spicy foods), gardening (tho can't do much in my apt)are the things that make me the happiest. I'm addicted to the farmers market, hiking, languages, architecture, travel, hula hooping, conversation, trying new things, samba, connecting with my friends and other people. I also do aerial acrobatics, which is sooo much fun!

Music, Movies, and Books

I never get tired of listening to reggae. One of the treats of living here is that I get to see (and dance to) lots of live music, mostly samba.

I haven't been reading books much lately but I love reading. I read many articles and spend (waste?) way too much time on Facebook!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Often my morning coffee makes me outrageously happy and thankful to be alive.

Kayaking with my boyfriend in the glimmering blue-green waters around Ilha Grande was amazing.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can share my knowledge of Rio, Brazilian (especially Carioca --Rio) culture, Portuguese, English, cooking.

I enjoy showing folks the colors and flavors of the local farmers markets, the rhythms of rodas de samba, the spontaneity of life here in Rio...

What I Can Share with Hosts

If I've got the time, we can go on a hike or check out some live samba. If I'm busy with work, I'll send you in the right direction to discover the best, low-key fun Rio has to offer!
