About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Spend as much time climbing and skiing as possible :-)

ABOUT ME

In my younger days, travel was the name of the game. After finishing university I spent three months backpacking through Europe and then I ran off to Brazil for a couple months. Upon my return to "reality," I discovered I wasn't nearly as happy as when I was seeing the world. I managed to find a job where I get the flexibility to travel and enjoy the beauty of the outdoors all over the world.

PHILOSOPHY

"Many, many years ago a man told me that to deny my dream was to sell my soul. I was young and did not know that the words were finding their own particular place within me so they would be mine forever, but I do remember blinking my eyes and nodding my head as if the very motion was forcing the truth in what he said deeper within me." [h. selby jr. // "of whales and dreams"]

We write our own stories, so plan accordingly. If you want something out of life, go find it. But sometimes you just have to hold your breathe and jump, otherwise you're going to try to think and plan everything out as opportunities pass you by. . .

It's better to fail and know something didn't work or that it wasn't right instead of wondering forever what could have been :-)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I occasionally surf and was active in the CS community in NYC. I've been on hiatus from CS for a couple years; although I'm still not in a position where I can currently host anyone, I'm happy to offer suggestions to people coming to visit or show people around.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have met some of my best friends through CS and have met a number of great people all around the world that have helped me have some crazy adventures :-)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

One of my favorite travel memories occured on the island of Itaparica when I was living in Salvador, Brasil. My friend's boyfriend was from the island and he took us to a festival in a little village on the opposite side of the island. It was a poor place, no one had much money, but despite their lack of material possessions, they were some of the happiest people I ever saw.

Another was going to the Dead Sea. Ever since I was about 9 years old and saw a picture of a guy floating, reading a news paper in the Dead Sea, I have always wanted to go. It was as cool as I imagined.

Seeing the sun rise over Macchu Picchu and climbing up Waynu Picchu.

Diving at Julian Rocks in Byron Bay in Australia was one of the first dives I ever did, but it still is on the top of my list of being probably the coolest. Whales singing in the background, sharks, turtles, rays, and so much sea life!

Backpacking 50 miles (plus a side trip up Half Dome) in six days in Yosemite. We packed way too much food, our packs were way too heavy, but it was incredible to hike up from the Valley floor to Tuolumne Meadows and then loop back into the high meadows of the Sierras and follow the Merced River back to the Valley. It was a personal feat that was rewarded with some amazing views that not many people get to experience in Yosemite.

Teach, Learn, Share

I love to cook. When I travel I love learning about different cooking styles and eating all different types of foods. I'd be more than happy to cook for you and your flatmates :-)
