About Me
CURRENT MISSION
I like to fool myself that I can discover the world, like if no other stranger has ever been there before. The more unknown a place is, the more appealing. I want to experience these other places. Not only by travelling, but by living there and befriend the locals. I have an urge for 'new'
ABOUT ME
I'm a big dreamer within, although in everyday life that's often covered by other personal ambitions and characteristics, and societies' expectations. I do think a lot and am wandering around whenever/wherever I can though. I'm happily suffering from severe escapism, cause there's so much more than anybody's daily life.
I can switch easily between great intellectual interest/thoughts with laziness, simpleness and "whatever, just give me a beer". Depends on the people around me and my mood. Although some of the best philosophical discussions start with a beer...
The way other people behave reflects on me, so I particularly get along well with people who laugh a lot. :) I'd love to be not so restless to be able to read more, but chances are that I'll be catching up with friends, playing some music, cooking or doing something else.
PHILOSOPHY
"Why not?"
Not because you should actually be doing everything which is physically possible. Be critical and cautious but to a certain extent and always start from the positive starting point of 'yes!'.
Other thumb-sucked quotes:
"Home is anywhere but where my house is."
"A forresty hill is always more beautiful if you haven't seen it before." In other words, the grass IS always greener on the other side.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I met people from the CS community in Lima and went to their activities and that's where I got the virus. Have not been hosted but guided very well by Erika in Asuncion, Paraguay. Have not hosted myself, unfortunately, because my locations have not been central. But I'd love to!
Interests
Wandering about, exploring, meeting new people, experiencing music, cartography, doing something significant. Sports as well, mostly if it's in a team and/or with a ball. I have played korfball (just google it) for about 20 years. Oh, and I love snowboarding.

Music, Movies, and Books
Music: From Led Zeppelin to Portishead, from Nick Cave to Elvis. But most of all... Tom Waits!
And to give some more names: The Tallest Man On Earth, Asteroids Galaxy Tour, The Dandy Warhols, Belle & Sebastian, Eric Clapton, Nina Simone, LCD Soundsystem, Talking Heads, Alt-J, Eels, Manu Chao, Morrissey
I would be more than happy to exchange Dutch with your local music!
Movies: I have some favorite directors... Terry Gilliam, Tim Burton, Wes Anderson, Paul Thomas Anderson, Spike Jonze, Lars von Trier, Clint Eastwood. As with music, I like it a bit strange, weird and alternative. In the grey area between reality and fantasy. But, also as with music, the interest is very broad and I can very much enjoy Machete Kills or Piranha 3D as well. ;)
Books: Mainly non-fiction. Read some great ones on travelling and cartography. Currently reading: Thinking, fast and slow. Latest reads: Vagabonding; The Power of Habit
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I climbed the 6100m tall Huayna Potosi in Bolivia. The most tiring but most astonishing thing I ever did. That stunning sunrise view on the top as an accomplishment, indescribable...
Teach, Learn, Share
I love exchanging languages
I play some guitar
I can teach/show you the basketball-resembling typical Dutch sport of korfball
