About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To see a game at all 30 MLB ballparks. To live in Canada for a year, 2, 3, 5? 10? Forever?

ABOUT ME

Film Maker, home chef, traveller. A sports fan and a baseball fanatic. A lover of beautiful things. Occasional political commentator. Food blogger and photographer. Vegetable and hedgehog lover. Wine and Coffee enthusiast. Gadget nerd, wishful astrophysicist and a prolific hugger.

PHILOSOPHY

I could go down to the sea and look at the cliff like a good tourist. But it's no good if there isn't somebody you can turn to and say, "Nice view, huh?" ... Nothing in the world is any good unless you can share it.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've only just joined so my participation is limited. I am moving to Toronto for work and even though I've never surfed or hosted I would love to surf a few couches and meet locals and get to know the city while I look to somewhere to settle. As soon as I'm set up, my couch will be open to all.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

None with strangers but plenty with friends I've met on my travels. I made a friend on a Mars Volta forum once, and his first trip overseas since his childhood was out to Australia. He spent a month on my couch and it was amazing. I loved having someone to host. He in turn had me at his place for a week in Chicago, best week of my life. A year later we travelled to Japan together.

Interests

I love being outdoors; hiking, walking, camping. In cities I like exploring and getting vaguely lost. I love and live food. I don't eat red meat or chicken but I've made friends with Salad and creatures of the oceans. I show love and appreciation by cooking for people. I live for summers and the beach. I'm a photographer and film maker, I love few things more than sitting outside in the summer or snuggled up inside in the winter, next to a friend with a glass of wine telling long yarns. I like learning local slang when abroad but hamming up my Aussie accent for fear of losing it. I love visiting cellar doors and teaching people to love wine. I've recently taken up indoor rock climbing, I'm not very good at it yet but man it's so much fun!! I desperately want to restore furniture. I dream of living with someone who wants to invest as much time and love as I do into decorating a place. I don't dream of a big house but I dream of one I've designed myself. Then other people can live it when I'm off gallivanting around the world.

Music, Movies, and Books

Uh...... This could get long.
I think Pixar make magic. I believe that while it is important for films to make social statements and to challenge you on an intellectual level, their primary purpose is to entertain.
Pop me in front of the TV with an English Comedy on and I'm happy as Larry. I often feel I am living the life of Liz Lemon. I believe in books and I don't believe in Kindles. Nothing can replace the feel and smell of a book, new or old. I regularly implore society and the universe to never lose sight of the magic of the printed word.
I will listen to almost anything but every time I hear Nickelback or Creed on the radio or blaring out of shops I begin to think the end is nigh.
If you follow this link (http://www.last.fm/user/Cassiethequick) you can see what I've listened to in the last week/3,6 and 12 months/overall. Jon Stewart is a 21st century hero.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Me and seven friends got spectacularly lost in Japan one day. Instead of making it to Mount Koya San to stay the night with Buddhist Monks, we ended up in a tinsy tiny little town on almost the other side of the country. I wouldn't say that's "amazing" as such but it's pretty ridiculous. On the other hand, I discovered that rural Japan is pretty, so not a complete loss. In a more positive Japanese story, we got to go to a Sumo tournament. That was amazing.

Teach, Learn, Share

Teach: I can teach you about photography and how to use a DSLR camera. I can teach you to cook. If for some inexplicable reason there is a Baseball team in your city/town and you've never bothered to go to a game and watch it, I'll come along and teach you the rules. Though I won't do it with much enthusiasm, I can explain the baffling game that is Australian Rules Football. Also, even though it's not a particularly useful skill, I can teach you to make roses out of Maple leaves, they're really pretty in a tacky, thanksgiving-table-decoration kind of way.

Learn: I can't ride a bike or drive manual. I'd like to be able to do both those things. Also, I really really want to learn to restore furniture.
