About Me

Hey there,

we are a young couple from Germany, both 20 years old. We finished school in 2020 and worked until burnout for about 4 months ;). Eventually on the 08th of January 2021 we started living our dream and began our backpacking worldtrip by flying to Cuba for 1 month. Afterwards we spent 4 months in Costa Rica and about 2 months in Panama before we hired on a sailing boat from Panama City all along the mexican west-coast up to the US border in another 2 months. Then we got off the boat and explored México City and the south states of México in 5 weeks. After that 80 days of the US and 1 month of Peru. It‘s crazy chaotic so far because of Covid entry rules but in no case we want to complain :)
In mid-march we returned to Europe (we were happy and sad about it at the same time) and did 1 month of volunteering at an olive farm in Portugal. On the 13th of May 2022 we started to walk slowly back to our hometown in Germany from Porto, to finish the journey in a proper way :)
We will use the "Camino Portugués de la Costa" to Santiago de Compostela and from there the "Camino del Norte" to the french border.

Besides the sailing part we traveled by hiking, camping (and enjoying outdoor life), couchsurfing of course :), sightseeing or volunteering.
On our journey we try to explore as many as possible different cultures, countries, cities, food and people in spite of all the challanges the Covid crises brings with it.

Covid:
We are fully vaccinated (3 doses) since the end of January 2022.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

We are still quite new to couchsurfing and hope it will bring us experiences beyond normal tourism. We would love to connect with locals and get insights of there daily life to experience how other people live.
After our first few times surfing on others couches we definitely learned to appreciate this and the experience you gain through this so we are really looking forward to further experiences and also give all this back by being a host when we are back home.

Interests

Since we got together we found our sharing love for cooking and since then tried all kind of recipes from different cultures like asian, vietnamese, thai and mexican. We have a lot of fun cooking extraordinary or more complicated meals and get to know all the countless aspects of cooking, baking and barbecuing :) During our travel we especially learned to love exploring typical and for us unknown recipes and food from the countries we’ve been to and always love to learn more.
Furthermore we love movies and series, enjoying them in a good cinema, explore nature by hiking or other outdoor activities, taking care of all kinds of animals or children and obviously traveling with all the different aspects that comes with it.

Music, Movies, and Books

We both love all kinds of movies, from biopics to syfy to comedy, wether they are filmed in the 60's or 21-century. We prefer to watch them mostly in OV. Some of our favorite movies: Star Wars & Lord of the Rings, Avatar (James Cameron), Seven, 1917, Zodiac, Friends,... The list is endless :)
Film music is - surprisingly - also our favorite type of music.
To refer to books, to the favorite books of Max count The Hobbit, Game of Thrones & Donald Duck. The list from Lena contains for example The Hunger Games and Game of Thrones.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Max: Seeing a whale live in natural habitat in Norway.

Lena: Rescued a chicken by helping it get out of it's egg. It is now healthy like all the others.

And newly both: Boat-Hiking :)

Teach, Learn, Share

As we spent a few months in Latin America we started to learn spanish and are still on it. Our cooking skills also improve from dish to dish but the more we get to know, the more we find out that there is so much more to learn. We love to learn new recipes and share our favourite recipes with others. At home we learn to play some instruments, Max plays guitar and Lena plays trombone and flute. We also took part in a fishing course (Max) and a course for motor boat driving (both), to get the licences for that. On our 2 months sailing boat journey we learned the basics in sailing and got some practice in boat driving which we are really grateful for.
The aspect of which we maybe appreciate most in travelling is that we get the chance to try so many new things, learn about things we never heard of and get inspired by other people so we try to learn as much experience as we can! Of course we also love to do it the other way around and share our humble skills & knowledge.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Of course we are open to share our few skills to everyone who is interested as good as we can. We would be happy to help with everything around the house like cleaning, grocerie shopping or cooking. If you trust our cooking skills enough we would even love to cook a whole meal ourselvese for you. We always cook with a lot of love :). All in all we are open for all kind of tasks you have for us.
