CURRENT MISSION
Aprender español y conoser gente nueva! / Learn Spanish and meet new people!
ABOUT ME
I think life is one great adventure--you just have to go out and discover it! Some days it is easier to do this than others, but when I get in a rut I just try to start anew.
PHILOSOPHY
" When a woman lives alone, her house should be extremely dilapidated, the mud wall should be falling to pieces, and if there is a pond, it should be overgrown with water plants. It is not essential that the garden be covered with sage-brush, but weeds should be growing through the sand in patches, for this gives the place a poignantly desolate look.
I greatly dislike a woman's house when it is clear she has scurried about with a knowing look on her face, arranging everything just as it should be, and when the gate is kept tightly shut."
- 'When A Woman Lives Alone', from The Pillow Book of Sei Shonagon.
"Resist much, obey little." - Walt Whitman
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I have not taken advantage of couchsurfing as much as I probably should to date, but I'm hoping to start getting more out of the experience soon.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I've stayed with a few hosts, all of whom were fabulous. Though my couch has often seen friends crashing on it, I have yet to host anyone from the site.
Interests
I have many hobbies and interests, such as cooking, drawing, singing, playing the guitar, learning about new cultures and advocating for environmental and social justice. I like to recycle, ride my bike, take walks, and talk about music and politics. I also enjoy meeting new people!

Music, Movies, and Books
Too many to list. Feel free to ask me about specific books/artists/movies, though, and I'll let you know if I'm familiar with it and what I thought about it!
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Saw Tibetan Buddhist monks creating a sand mandala. Incredible.
Teach, Learn, Share
I am an art history major, and a music junkie, so I would love to share and exchange any knowledge I have pertaining to those subjects. I just went to the Himalayas this summer to study Vajrayana (Tibetan) Buddhism and the forms of art that go along with it, so I have some knowledge that I can share on that subject as well. Also, feel free to ask me about the work that United Students Against Sweatshops, a student activist organization that I am involved in, is up too! Happy to share.
I also speak French on a competent level (as I have studied French for 10+ years and lived in Montpellier for a year), and wholly welcome any French speakers or learners who wish to venture my way.
