About Me
CURRENT MISSION
The world is a book and those who don't travel read only a page." St. Augustine
ABOUT ME
For years I lived in a backpack and traveled around the world with different churches and humanitarian organizations. Then, I got set up on a blind date and decided to get married! My husband, Jeremy, is also a traveler, but currently he is working for the IT department of a film studio and I am teaching grades 1 - 5 at a small private school in Kona, Hawaii. We hope to be traveling again soon, though.
PHILOSOPHY
Never stop learning or laughing. Live a life of simplicity!
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
A friend shared this site with me while I was travelling around the world several years back, so I've only surfed so far...though I've also managed to get several of my friends signed up as well!
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I've had a fantastic time surfing in several different countries. I've learned a lot from my hosts and made some great friends!

Music, Movies, and Books
I read everything. Literally! ;) I grew up in a home full of books. We had bookshelves of books in the bedrooms, living room, dining room, even the hallway! I started reading those books at a young age and I'm still reading now. It's one of my favourite activities.
Basically if a book is highly recommended, I'll give it a chance no matter the genre or topic...and I'm always looking for a good book recommendation!
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Well...let's see... Angkor Wat at sunrise, visiting Troy, Athens, and the pyramids with a fellow classics major, cliff jumping, teaching kids, watching kids learn, camping at Kalaloch in the winter, sunrise over the Great Wall, getting lost in Korea, dawn service at Hellfire Pass, 4th class train travel through India... I guess that's more than one.
Teach, Learn, Share
I can give you some tips on traveling on a shoestring or point you in the direction of different volunteering opportunities around the world. I can tell you a bit about Classical history too, I suppose.
I'd love to learn more about other countries and cultures...especially history. I'd also LOVE to talk to anyone working in/with community development, social work, urban renewal, economics, micro-loans, education, poverty alleviation, or NGO's in a local, national, or international arena.
Since taking up teaching, it would also be interesting to hear from other teachers especially in the fields of special education, alternative teaching theories, and learning disabilities.
