About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To see the world and meet and understand the cultural wealth of inhabitants as fully as possible in a brief, fleeting lifetime.

ABOUT ME

I'm a 28 year old dude who has become disillusioned with the monotony of what people would call a 'normal life'. I'm seeking something more, something that I would deem worthwhile and not what society would attribute worth to, something spiritually nourishing. I intend to abandon boredom and duty and enlighten myself by meeting as many people from as many different walks of life as possible. Of course, seeing the infinite wonders of the world along the way is no unhappy by-product.

I would describe myself as incredibly open minded and very easy going. I'm always willing to try something new and to understand concepts or beliefs from another persons perspective. I can be a little stubborn but if a person possesses no conviction in achieving their own goals then those goals are not worth having. However I am polite and always attempt to be conscious of others in everything that I do.

I never understood how mind numbingly frustrating it is to try and depict the complex nature of a person, irregrdless of it being yourself and therefore someone you would profess to know better than anyone else, into a few select words. Then again, words are often not the right right tools as I believe they can lack the potency to ascribe characteristics to the deep meaningful things in life. That's something that maybe had I realised sooner in my life, I would have concluded that a philosophy degree was not for me.

PHILOSOPHY

Every single person is entitled to seek their own individual interpretation of happiness should it not encroach substantially on the happiness of others.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

At the moment I am unfortunately unable to host but I am more than willing to show people around the few redeeming features of the town where I live should they accidentally find themselves here.

I would ideally use CS to travel and meet people. Eventually, regardless of whether my personal experiences are pleasurable I would certainly seek to repay the favour one day by offering my home to those who wish to couch surf themselves.

Interests

Music has to be one, if not the greatest human pleasure we are all able to share. Whether it's at a festival following your favourite artists or quietly immersing yourself in solitude music makes and moves us all.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music : The Cure, firstly and always. After that my musical taste is an amalgamation of genres and styles that I have no desire to list in its entirety but I am willing to select a few snippets from. Pink Floyd, Manic Street Preachers, Bauhaus, Blondie, Arcade Fire, Chk! Chk! Chk!, Julian Cope, Nirvana, The National, The Beatles, Nine Inch Nails. I also enjoy Classical music, Jazz and any different or uncommon music.

Books: I believe The Lord of the Rings to be the pinnacle of literary enjoyment for me. This isn't because of the quality of the form, the scathing intellect behind the book or any other pretentious quality. It's the ability to create so vividly a world focused around the thrill of adventure, the struggle of good against evil, massive appreciation for natural beauty and most importantly the joy of travel. I have read 'better' books but since reading this as a young boy I can't remember having had the pang of ecstasy from a book so strongly. Anyhow, I love 'The Master and Margarita', 'Crime and Punishment', '1984', 'The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant', 'The Third Policeman', 'The Iliad', 'The Odyssey', 'The Aeneid' (special mention for the previous three), 'Dante's Inferno', 'Slaughterhouse Five'
