About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Trying to figure out what my next mission will be...

ABOUT ME

Meeting new places, not just tourist-like, but actually having a chance to be immerse within a certain culture, knowing the locals' normal daily lives and acknowledging people with different backgrounds and visions about the world... That's pretty much my one and only vice, it's what keeps me motivated and going. My biggest dream is to make viable a hypothetical trip across the entire planet. But so far it's still a dream.

I'm about to conclude my undergraduate course in Economics in Brazil. And no, I definitely don't wish to work in the finance sector. I'd rather do something closer to social policies, and in that respect I've been thinking about facing the challenge of public education, with its structural problems and dilemmas. An idea which opposes to the conception of the school as inclined to augment the productivity of a given society has apparently been gaining appeal within the academia, but implementing alternative educational systems has presented itself as a difficult task, especially in countries which lack the resources for a well-structured school.

Contributing for a better education, concerned about one's creativity, critical thinking and self-knowledge, has appeared to me as a worthwhile goal to be striving for during my upcoming professional career. If one ever becomes interested on knowing how this intention of mine will eventually develop, I think I'd be glad to talk about over the course of the next couple of years.

PHILOSOPHY

"My country is the world, and my religion is to do good."
Thomas Paine

"Knowledge is no guarantee of good behavior, but ignorance is a virtual guarantee of bad behavior."
Martha Nussbaum

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've found out about CouchSurfing during the summer of 2010. I had flown to Europe, initially planning to stay in Germany for four weeks, but soon things turned off track and I decided to go backpacking through some European countries. When a friend of mine became aware of my situation, he told me about CS. Since then, I've been having a great experience with couchsurfing!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've couchedsurfed only twice so far and it's been a whole lot of fun!

Besides that, when I was an exchange student in the US in 2007, I could meet dozens of exchange students from various countries around the globe. I've made many good friendships there and some of them hosted me when I traveled in Europe for the first time.

Interests

I'm quite interested in political philosophy, especially issues about ethics. A contemporary thinker who's been especially inspiring for myself lately is Martha Nussbaum. And films, I love them; though I don't consider myself to be a great expert on the issue, I did think about becoming a filmmaker during my adolescence, and this will hasn't completely faded so far.

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm a huge fan of Woody Allen and Ingmar Bergman... I have a hard time trying to figure out which are my favorite films from each of them, but if I had to drop out some names I'd say Midnight in Paris and The Purple Rose of Cairo (Woody), and by Bergman there's Wild Strawberries, The Seventh Seal, and Persona, which is probably the film that I enjoyed the most out of every single one that I've ever seen.

I listen mostly to progressive rock and jazz music, though not only. I really enjoy listening to Belle and Sebastian as well. And surely, I'm one more Beatlemaniac in the world.

From the books that I've read recently, The Catcher in the Rye has pleased me quite a lot.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

A 30-day-long bus trip across the United States, when I was an 18-year-old exchange student over there. That was uniquely special... I've also had great experiences during a backpacking journey across Europe which I took by myself... Basically the trips that I've taken are pretty much the best moments I can remember of.

Teach, Learn, Share

Teach, learn, share... I can't really say anything specific which I can properly teach, that'd be a little pretentious, I guess. I rather being taught, but I think that I'm okay to talk with most of the time, and then the process of teaching/learning sorta comes out naturally.
