About Me

CURRENT MISSION
I've just finished my bachelor's in film studies, so now I'm making my way across Europe. The idea is to go busking in the streets to help fund my trip while also being able to explore my music :)

ABOUT ME
My name is Leo and I'm very excited to meet you! I just moved away from Mainz, Germany where I spent the past 4 years studying film. Even while I was studying I tried to get away as often as I possibly could. For me, traveling is a way of living, not just a hobby. Even when I'm at home, I try to see something special in all those everyday-things and that includes getting extremely excited about the stars or about a bumblebee that's coming my way.

Apart from traveling, I am also in love with music.I love listening to it, talking about it but most of all make it. Most of the time, I've got some random song stuck in my head and I can't help but let it out. I play the guitar and the ukulele, which I have with me most of the time, and I love to sing. It's then when I feel most at home in my own body and most comfortable with myself. Music continues teaching me so much about life and art but also about myself, and I am so grateful for it.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
It's amazing how many different people I’ve met who were all embracing a similar spirit - I really appreciate this community. Now I want to surf my way through Europe. I can't wait to make even more beautiful memories with the help of CS.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

You can't get to know a place if you don't spend time with its people.

Interests

I love nature.
I prefer the mountains over the sea.
It's my dream to do a really long trek someday, and just disappear into the woods for a while. Hiking is beautiful! It never fails to put me out of my busy mind right back into my body and makes me appreciate the beauty that is surrounding us.

On the other hand, I also like gaming (The Last of Us best game everrr <3) and sometimes I spend a week rewatching Breaking Bad. I just really love stories of any kind, my own as well as those that are told to me through whatever medium or person.

The rest of my time I spend with people. People are awesome!

Music, Movies, and Books

There are so many stories that inspire me, wether they're told in a song, a book or a film.

MUSIC
Mostly I listen to folk music. My favorite musician is The Tallest Man On Earth, this guy inspires me so much it's crazy!
I also love Nick Drake, Bob Dylan, Jose Gonzales, Glen Hansard, Bon Iver, Fleet Foxes, Laura Marling, Courtney Barnett, Johnny Cash, The Beatles, The Beach Boys, Alt-J, Joni Mitchell, The Velvet Underground, Rodriguez...I also like rock'n'roll, Bluesy-jazzy stuff, sometimes there's beautiful classical music I really enjoy.

FILM
My favorite movies ever in the whole world of all time of all the movies that will ever exist are The Lord of the rings movies. All three are perfection. I find that I'm often incredibly bored by films that are considered 'important'. I could name hundreds of films I love, but here are some that have moved/inspired/fascinated me the most (that I can think of right now):

Swiss Army Man, Frank, The Lion King, Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke, Searching for Sugar Man, Blade Runner 2049, Birdman, Oldboy, Martyrs, It Follows, Boyhood, About Time, Whiplash, La La Land, Her, Once, 500 Days of Summer, Irréversible, Raw, La Grande Bellezza, Prisoners, Howls Moving Castle ...

BOOKS
I appreciate writers who can describe weird human emotions for which there are no words. I always read about 10 books at the same time but will only finish about 2 of them. It's a bad habit! I think my favorite book is Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer. Another book that's really given me a lot is The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle. I like Tolkien, Jack London, Hermann Hesse, Chuck Palahniuk...there's so many brilliant writers and so little time to appreciate all of them. I'm happy about any recommendations you could give me!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Moving people to tears while busking in the street.

But really, there are so many amazing things happening around me constantly. I just have to remind myself to look from time to time.

Teach, Learn, Share

If you have a banjo, I will forever love you if you could teach me or simply let me hold it :D I kinda love the banjo!

I can teach you some guitar or ukulele chords if you would like. Apart from that my skills are pretty limited, haha

What I Can Share with Hosts

music, laughter, tobacco and toothpaste if you need any :)
