ABOUT ME

What up CS, I'm Léon. I'm a 20 year old dutch guy who studies history and currently lives in a student flat in Utrecht. I'm originally from the eastern part of the Netherlands, from the region called Twente. I guess I'm a laid back person who likes to chill and have a good time. My main interest besides history is music, which I write myself and like to make with others (you, if you'd like). I'm also fond of writing (in dutch), and would like to do more with that in the future.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'd like to meet new people and show them around Utrecht, or just meet up for funs and laughs. It would be great to meet other musicians and play together, though non-musicians are equally welcome of course :).

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've surfed three times, in Cologne, Trier and Deventer, and I had a really great time there. I've had visits from couchsurfers in my former house and I've met some of them and enjoyed their company and stories. I also occasionally visit CS-meetings in Utrecht, and try to visit more of them in the future.

Interests

Music is my main interest. I'm always into making music with other people, in bands or by just jamming. I sing, play the guitar, the bass guitar, kazoo and I'm learning to play the melodica and blues harp. I love all sorts of different instruments, and would like to learn the ukelele, banjo, mandoline, sitar and the lot. I don't think I'll ever get tired of playing music, or learning new instruments.

Apart from music I'm also interested in history, which I'm studying at the moment. I'm mainly interested in German history and culture, and I'm thinking of studying/working abroad there to further expand my knowledge about Germany.

Furthermore I want to learn to become a better writer and speaker of the Dutch language, that fascinates me. I occasionally write short stories, lyrics and poems, inspired by the beautiful work of Lennaert Nijgh and Drs. P.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: Quite alot of different genres, whatever suits me at the moment: Ska, 60's, cute old Dutch songs from the 40's and 50's, Blues, Rock N' Roll, Jazz, Bluegrass, Drum N' Bass, Classical Music, Folk, Dub, Reggae. Favourite artists include Béla Fleck & The Flecktones, The Beatles, The Who, The Rolling Stones, Desmond Dekker, Renaissance, Ian Dury, Drs. P, Kraftwerk, Boudewijn de Groot. My last.fm account, to get an impression:

Books: I've been catching up lately on my huge pile of books that still need reading. I've been mainly reading Dutch classics lately (like Louis Couperus), but there are a lot of English classics I'm interested in as well. Ah well, one at a time... one at a time.

Movies: If..., A Clockwork Orange, The Big Lebowski, Donnie Darko, Dead Poets Society, LOTR, Enter The Void, Across The Universe, Dude, Where's My Car?, Oh Brother, Where Art Thou?, The Adventures Of Mark Twain, Pleasantville and many more.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I once performed for 2 and a half hours in a big tent in front of about two thousand people. That really gets your adrenaline flowing, it was awesome.

Teach, Learn, Share

Since I study history, I can tell you a story or two about things historical. I like to discuss history, music, movies, politics and the like, and would like to hear your opinion about them. My main historical interest is pre-twentieth century Germany, especially Prussia, and I'm planning to go studying in Germany for half a year within the next few years, to broaden my knowledge about the subject.

As you might have read, I'm also interested in music, and can teach you the basics on playing guitar and bass guitar. I can also teach you some Dutch, if you're interested, and even some Low German, since I'm from the Twente region in the Netherlands, where it's spoken.

Countries I’ve Visited
