ABOUT ME

Hello,

I am Leon Valentin Schettler, 29 years old and from Cologne (Germany). I lived a
year in Mexiko, one in Brazil, 3 in the Netherlands (where i did my Bachelor Studies at the University College Maastricht) and 2 in Sweden (where I did my M.A. Master in Peace and Conflict Studies). While i really like living in all kinds of countries, I am also very happy to be in Berlin right now, where i am pursuing a PhD on the relationship between Civil Society and International Institutions.

PHILOSOPHY

I would love to talk about these questions more in detail over a glass of wine or Fanta or so, but do not feel confident in putting a phrase or two in this column (I guess this could already be evaluated as part of my personal philosophy..).

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

so far, I always experienced meeting people as a great gift. In fact, the interaction with people in a given place tell me so much more than monuments or abstract descriptions of a place in travel guides etc.

Hence, I am a big fan of initiatives that achieve to connect open-minded people in order to facilitate encounters, cooperation and something like a global identity.

Music: I am still somewhat in love with Nicolas Jaar, Fela Kuti and Manu Chao..

Books: Sartre and Camus really fascinated me for quite some time. Recently, I did not really read any novel i must confess..

I could teach a magic trick and how to cook a nice meal
