About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Fighting the good fight & enjoying all this life has to off along the way

ABOUT ME
I just moved to Treme from Baltimore.

I'm a political/community organizer, a heavily tattooed recovering-punker. Like a true Marylander, I can be a laid-back good ole boy and a hipstery east coaster simultaneously.

I'm a great tour guide of Baltimore.

PHILOSOPHY

"Service to [the] people is the rent you pay for your space on this earth." - Juanita Jackson Mitchell

"If my neighbor is hungry - I feed him, but I keep my nose out of his business." Rep. "Big" Tim Sullivan (D-NY)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I haven't really used CS much. However, I do want to host here in NOLA. I did occasionally hang out with the Baltimore Couchsurfers, and for years I've doing couch surfing & hosting through friends and friends of friends.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've often couchsurfed around the country, and opened my home many a times to travelers, even if I just met them. However, I've yet to do so through this site. I look forward to changing that, but unfortunately I can't at this time.

Interests

Politics, music, good beer, different belief structures, good conversations/debates, & tattoos.

Music, Movies, and Books

Punk (psychobilly, cow punk, folk punk of every variety especially riot folk, ska-punk, oi, hardcore, street punk, surf-punk, 80's post-punk, riot grrl, etc), blues, jazz, zydeco, classic rock, 90's alternative, Irish rebel songs, freedom/political/protest songs, reggae/ska/dub/calypso, bluegrass/old-time, outlaw country (not to be confused for that pop-country crap on the radio), alt country, indie, R&B/funk/soul/neo-soul, independent hip-hop, etc. Always looking for new music - or at least new to me. Of course, I listen to a lot of NPR, usually WTMD, WPFW - Jazz & Justice (DC), WYPR, or WWOZ (NOLA) online. Also Austin Indepenent Radio & Boot Liquor Radio (online radio).

Movies: Coen Brothers films, Mel Brooks films, John Waters films, Kevin Smith films, most Tim Burton films, most pixar, old movies, independent, comedy, some sci-fi, drama, mysteries, historical, some westerns, mafia/crime movies, etc. I'll watch anything at least once really.

I read a bit of everything, Vonnegut is my favorite. Right now I've primarily been reading political/campaign related books, history (principally on labor & revolutionary movements of the 19th & early 20th centuries) as well as ones on comparative religion. Currently obsessed with all things Gaiman & Sedaris.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

When I lived/worked in Montana, I used my sole day off during a several month period to go to the Crow Nation's annual Pow Wow - the largest Native American Pow Wow in the US. "The Res" was a whole other world for someone from the east coast. The dances, outfits, songs, etc. There's not really enough space here to describe the experience.

How to be able to organize hundreds of people, yet have such a disorganized car* that one can't fit more than one passenger.

*The cops once tried to search my car, and gave up out of sheer frustration. True story.

I'm also a great tour guide of New Orleans. History & current affairs, explaining our quirky & unique culture, showing one the great sites, eateries, bars, and everything else - I'm your guy.
