I'm young couch surfer, but I'm adept to WWOOFing, similar concept, more famous in Australia and New Zealand.
In practice makes perfect :)

I shared some great time to meet peoples ans cultures during my Euroean road trip, greasy CouchSurfing
In exchange we opened our house at some guest world ... rich moment in sharing time and memories.
