Sobre mí

CURRENT MISSION: Be happy and grateful for the opportunities and life I've been blessed with.

ABOUT ME
I'd like to think I'm a unique individual but then I look at all the other amazing Couchsurfing profiles and think, "What great company I'm in, being a part of this community!" You guys rock.

But enough about you. ;) My husband and I just celebrated our 6th anniversary last April. We have an 8 year old daughter that we homeschool. It's tough homeschooling a child with both parents working full time jobs but I tell you what - our girl is an amazing little person!! I love to talk about her but I'll move forward haha. I have a STRONG passion to travel and see new places, cultures, landscapes, people, and so much more. I've been to Central America (Guatemala, Costa Rica, Honduras, Nicauragua - for a Nazarene-affiliated mission trip), Mexico (to visit friends), and Ireland where I hiked, visited a small town I read about in a Nora Roberts books, went horseback riding on castle grounds, and flew a Harris Hawk that majestically returned to my arm when I gestured for her. She was nearly as beautiful as the landscapes I saw while hiking.

I love music. Nearly anything and everything. And when I say everything, I mean it. I can't really do vulgar, profanity-filled music, but I do recognize the talent behind some of it.

I play ukulele, a little bit of guitar, and sing.

I love the outdoors (more on that later). Eventually I hope to focus more on small-scale homesteading or self-sufficiency. I believe there has GOT to be more to life than just working our lives away at corporate-type job, day in and day out, a slave to a schedule. One day I hope to find the balance of doing things I LOVE and doing things I have to do.

For now, I keep chickens (6 hens, 2 roosters), a small garden, and enjoy planting, weeding, building my hens' coop, being outside, and working hard (at things I love - not always at my job ;).

I would probably wither away to nothing if I lost the ability to run, bicycle, hike, explore, or just be outside.

I enjoy sky diving, kayaking, exploring towns I've never been to, fishing, hiking, hunting, mountain biking and cycling, people-watching, and learning. I enjoy swimming but not at a pool - I prefer rivers and lakes. Call me a hippie, but whatever. Speaking of, I adore Patchouli. My favorite perfume is one I get custom mixed at the Renn Fest: "Patchouli Rose" and "Dragon Tattoo."

Also, speaking of, I have a few tattoos and enjoy fantasy novels, movies, art, etc involving dragons. Uhm, what else...

I'm also very active in my local community theatre! In high school I was a theatre nerd. I've been in Sound of Music (nun), Wizard of Oz (tree, Oz woman), Harvey (sound), Little Shop of Horrors (student director, lights), and The Crucible (Mercy Lewis). In the local community theatre, I played Rapunzel in Into the Woods, Edna Edison in Prisoner of 2nd Avenue, and was the Stage Manager in See How They Run.

I love baking and cooking but don't get enough time to pursue that as much as I'd like.

I REALLY enjoy Rennaissance festivals.

Feel free to message me with any other questions if you're interested in surfing with me or hosting me, even if no plans come from it. I love chatting with new people!

Por qué estoy en Couchsurfing

I have couchsurfed once and can't wait to do it again. I hosted once and it was a wonderful-lovely (yet crazy-horrible) experience that ended sadly. I hope to host again soon, though!

I try not to be the too "tourist-y" when I travel. I like to get off the beaten path and see things that the locals love, even if that means sacrificing a few places that "everyone" has to see while they're in "x" location. That’s why I like couchsurfing: You get a better idea of a location and can get tips/hints for all the best "non-touristy" places to go.

I love hearing about others' lives and travels. I can be quite talkative once I relax a bit, but I'm slightly shy at first until I get a feel for your flow. I don't always think of great questions to ask about your life until a couple hours or days later, so definitely feel free to talk about yourself as much as you want!

Intereses

I think I just about exhausted this box (and your time it took to read it) in the about me section...

Except! I also am a fan of hockey and (American) football. Pittsburg Penguins and Pittsburg Steelers are my favorite teams.

Música, películas y libros

Music: you name it, I probably enjoy it. Bluegrass, bluegrass gospel, National Public Radio (really enjoyed Garrison Keillor on A Prairie Home Companion), rock (classic and current), country western, classic country, not much new country but some, alternative rock, alternative pop, indie, top 40 hits occasionally, some rap, Christian (contemporary and alternative)... oh, oh, oh! Medieval music or things I'd hear at the Renn fests. I listen to a lot of Musical soundtracks and classical/orchestral music, as well as fantasy/sci fi video game soundtracks. My favorite video on Youtube is titled, "My Fantasy Bard Collection" or something like that. I'm telling you. I love it all.

Movies: While You Were Sleeping, 13th Warrior, Last of the Mohicans, Secret Life of Walter Mitty, Silver Linings Playbook, Harry Potter (particularly the .. oh nevermind, I can't pick which one!), Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, Pirates of the Carribean, Scott Pilgrim vs The World, Boondock Saints, just about any John Wayne, Shawshank Redemption, Little Shop of Horrors, V for Vendetta, Phantom of the Opera, Moulin Rouge, Disney (of course), Blazing Saddles, Pick of Destiny I'm sure I'll add to this list as I remember, I feel like I'm missing crucial favorites.

Books: I can't put them down. Every book. All the books!

Algo increíble que he hecho

Every adventure that has taken my breath away and has driven me forward to continue to search for the next beautiful landscape/culture/language to explore (yes, yes, that's technically more than one).

Solo-hiked Ireland. Amazing experience, can't wait for my next long hike!

Enseña, aprende, comparte

I can teach people more than they ever wanted to know about chickens, gardening, and running. I also know some Spanish and can answer questions about skydiving. My knowledge of certain categories is probably only half-learned. Plus, everything I know about is sporadic and eclectic in taste haha. I would love to learn whatever you have to offer!

Qué puedo ofrecer a los anfitriones

See above ^^^

To add to that, I'm extrememly respectful. If I am hosted, I typically try to be very quiet and unnoticeable unless the host makes it clear that they want me around. I don't want to get in anyone's way or interrupt anyone's schedules - I may come off as antisocial because of this but I am ANYTHING BUT - I am a social butterfly and love discussion. I'm just not always sure how to begin it!
