ABOUT ME

I'm often caught chatting with old people about the world and getting stoked with kids about things like snails or boogers. I also draw and paint a bit. I like talking with movie nerds about movies, theater nerds about theater, forestry nerds about trees etc.

I suppose that I'm also looking for a little help in having fun, learning and growing. I cherish communication and honesty. I'm looking for insight on building alternatives to oppressive institutions/spaces.

I like biking, reflecting, hiking, yoga, sky diving, running (slowly) and stuff...but I'm not Iron-man about any of it.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have couchsurfed a few times throughout the world in Colombia, Malaysia, Singapore, and in California,Oregon and Seattle. I've hosted folks in San Diego, Arcata CA and Oakland, CA Every experience has been wonderful, and I am still friends with people that I have couchsurfed with.

I'm interested in my work right now, teaching sociology at Berkeley City College, working in a charter school, and contemplating a life as a radical high school history/social studies teacher.

I love reading, talking, listening, drawing, and teaching. I was a researcher for a politically-charged mural crew, while teaching in San Quentin Prison. I've also waited tables and done innumerable random jobs.

Last year I took an 8-month trip through Ecuador, Colombia (2 months), The Caribbean, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and LAOPDR. It is still with me.

I'm also eating plenty of garlic and spicy stuff. I love food! Oh, I love being goofy as hell, too.

Books: So many books...critical theory and other folks such as Angela Davis, bell hooks, Andrea Smith, (Feeling a HUGE urge to name-drop a ton of fancy pants theorists and prison memoirs here...but I hope you get the point). I also love literature like: White Noise, Catch 22, Notes from Underground, The God of Small Things, Zin and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, Sartre's plays, The Road, Chekov, Tolstoy.

Movies: Easy Rider, Raging Bull, There Will Be Blood, Taxi Driver, Lost in Translation, Bottle Rocket, China Town, The Graduate, Eraserhead... Documentaries! The Black Power Mixtapes...

Music: Punk and post-punk (The Sreamers, Rudimentary Peni, The Dead Boys, Joy Division). indie stuff (Grimes, Arcade Fire, The Smiths), thrash or noise (Melt Banana, Spazz, Limp Wrist), hip hop (Dead Prez, Tupac), jazz (Monk, Davis, Mingus) and: The Talking Heads, Devo, Bon Iver, Dinah Washington, Sigur Ros, Beach House, Lightning Hopkins, The Knife, Deerhunter, Elton John, Slayer, Grandaddy....Feist (yeah, really, Feist).

我做过的一件不可思议的事情

I see amazing people pushing boundaries and overcoming serious obstacles on the daily. This process is so inspiring. I also sky-dived over a glacier in New Zealand....probably the most amazing thing I've done thus far.
