About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To restore sanity.

ABOUT ME

I'm a 6'2" pacifist who really loves coffee and pie.

PHILOSOPHY

I'm the kind of person who plans endlessly, then secretly hopes that the plan falls apart epically because I know it will make a great story later. I've kind of bought into Aldous Huxley's notion that a fully lived life is only possible by being consciously present through both pain and pleasure.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I think CouchSurfing is a great project because it allows interesting people to meet each other and have a meaningful cultural exchange. Many people talk about the world getting smaller like it's a bad thing, but if we can help bring to light everyone's common humanity while drawing strength from our differences, the human race will be that much better off.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Last summer I went to Montreal for a week, and stayed with two amazing hosts. I was really nervous because it was my first time using CouchSurfing, but all my fears were put to rest pretty quickly.

Interests

I enjoy talking to smart people, hiking, reading, dreaming, rallying the masses, and spontaneously jamming to the music playing in my head. I'm also a sucker for great cinema.

Music, Movies, and Books

There isn't much music that I truly don't like. If the writing is good and the melody moves me, I'll listen to it. That said, my favorite current bands would have to be The Shins, Arcade Fire, and The New Pornographers. I think the best movie is one you can't get out of your head for a week. This could range from a Woody Allen classic to a Christopher Nolan mind-bender. Books are largely the same way. I could be laughing aloud reading Fear and Loathing or wanting to revolt reading A People's History, but either way art is about discovering things in yourself.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Laying on ones back in old growth redwoods is one of the most profound experience someone can have. I had the privilege of living near them (in Eureka, California) for three years.
