About Me

CURRENT MISSION

I'd like to meet some new folks through Couchsurfing while living here in New York

ABOUT ME

I won't even attempt to describe myself by putting words in a little box...how can anyone describe themselves in such a way?

But to learn more, you can look me up on Facebook: www.facebook.com/LexDevo

PHILOSOPHY

Life is what happens while you're busy making other plans - John Lennon

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'd like to prove to the world that not all Americans are cocky, arrogant pricks.

I'm happy to show travelers to New York how amazing this city can be!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

While backpacking around Eastern Europe in late summer 2009 I learned of Couchsurfing for the first time...I was able to meet some really cool people, and think it's a great way to continue to meet other like-minded travelers who are as passionate about traveling as I am!

I recently took a trip to Peru and got back into the Couchsurfing site, and based on that experience I'd like to be more active here in New York since I don't have any trips planned in the near future...I've decided that I really need to learn Spanish, so that's going to be my goal moving forward...

Interests

Wow...OK...I can walk around New York City, or any city, aimlessly and people-watch all day long.

I like writing Chuck Klosterman-esque essays, checking out indie/foreign films at the Landmark or Angelika in Manhattan, heading to the beach in the summer. I work out, run (I'm training for the NYC Marathon this November) and do yoga.

I read a lot and am the organizer of my own book club (yeah, I'm a geek like that). I love checking out new bars and lounges in NYC, and am a sucker for a mimosa-filled brunch...I love mom and pop coffee shops, and love checking out Time Out: New York to see what's going on in the City any given day of the week...I'm easy to please.

Music, Movies, and Books

I'll do my top 3 of each, but these lists are certainly not all-inclusive:
Movies: American Beauty; Shawshank Redemption; Goodfellas
Music: U2; Beatles; Weezer
Books: East of Eden, by John Steinbeck; Catcher in the Rye, by J.D. Salinger; and The Corrections, by Jonathan Franzen

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've driven across the U.S. twice - once in 2002, and again in 2006. It's a shame to me that most Americans have no idea how beautiful their country is because they're afraid to venture out West!

Teach, Learn, Share

As I said above, I really want to learn Spanish...in high school, but never became fluent! Now it's time to finally become fluent!

I'd say I know my way around NYC pretty well - not just Manhattan, but a lot of out-of-the-way spots in the outer boroughs (especially since I live in Queens).

Countries I’ve Visited
