About Me

I graduated somewhat recently and have been checking out a few places to settle my roots for a little while. I lived in Lawrence, KS for a few years, and it was pretty cool. I think I'm looking for something a little more laid back. Northern Colorado is on the horizon for me; I've heard awesome and beautiful things about the entire state, so I've got my fingers crossed!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

To make friends, travel, learn about different cultures, try new things, and put myself out there in a way I haven't done before.

Interests

My biggest passion in life is live theatre. I love designing and building sets, and I'm an accomplished scenic painter as well. I love the outdoors and I'm looking forward to spending time backpacking in the Colorado wilderness. I love animals, good food, dark beers, swimming, tabletop RPGs, and making people smile.

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm pretty open to a lot of different kinds of music. I spend a lot of time listening to classic jazz and lounge music. I'm a real sucker for Bing Crosby. I also enjoy electronic music; Justice is a favorite of mine.

My movie taste is pretty varied, although I have a soft spot for quirky romances. I recently watched Seeking a Friend for the End of the World for the first time and it was just darling. I can't wait for Star Wars VII to come out in December and I'm hoping JJ Abrams does a better job with that than he did with the Star Trek reboot. (I think he will.)

Some favorite books of mine are Fool by Christopher Moore, The Great Gatsby, Code Verity, and naturally, the Harry Potter series.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

In my last year of college, I was the captain of our Stage Crew Showdown team. Stage Crew Showdown is an event at a conference called KCACTF (The Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival). In this event, teams compete in trials related to working backstage in a theatre, doing work like tying knots, hanging and focusing stage lights, etc. As team captain, I drilled my teammates on the different competitions and led us to victory. Not only was it the first year that ESU had won the Stage Crew Showdown, but it was also the first year that both the competition aware and the Spirit Award were won by the same school. I've never been prouder of my friends.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you how to paint if you like! I know how to paint faux finishes, I'm an intermediate reproduction artist (I have a few canvasses with copies of Van Gogh paintings and Monets that I'm pretty proud of) so I might be able to teach you a few things there. I can also teach you how to cultivate a few different kinds of plants, and how to use positive training with your pet.

I would love to learn more about hobbies I'm not as familiar with. I like working with my hands and will happily help with tasks you might need a second person for. I'm also always looking to improve my cooking skills.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I could tell you what life is like in Kansas, how long it takes to drive to Kalamazoo when you're singing showtunes at the tops of your lungs, and what it feels like to lose your glasses for a week on the first day you arrive in a theme park. I can share nefarious deeds and friendly triumphs and cheer and sigh at all the appropriate times when you tell stories. I can also teach you how to play a lot of games, if you want!
