About Me
Hi there! I am a kiwi who has been living abroad and returned home to study a masters degree - I am currently grounded but no doubt I shall be flying again soon! My housing situation is a tad hectic as I am moving between a lot of places but when I have a more permanent and stable place to stay then I can host some more of you lovely couchsurfers!
I grew up just out of Wellington, New Zealand on a small farm that you could easily describe as a paradise where my mother breeds horses, runs global innovation competitions and teaches management with my father at the nearby university. We are part of the WWOOFing scheme which is much like workaway through which we've met tonnes of travelers from all corners of the globe, many of which have become life-long friends.
I myself am a gentle lad with a crazy streak, passionate about the new industrial revolution of digital manufacture, science, and all things 3D printing. I have recently finished a degree in Industrial Design and have since been driving innovation with digital manufacturing technologies, such as building custom 3D Printers for synthetic bone, designing and manufacturing superhydrophobic 3D Printed surface geometries and built a weather station that actually shows you the weather forecast with clouds, wind, rain and lightning inside a glass sphere. I've also recently worked at a design studio building interactive exhibitions with biotechnology and solving climate change problems using new technologies and a bit of imagination. But don't be fooled! My roots are humble, I'm no stranger to a hard day's work - I have been building and fixing things on the farm since I was young, from designing and planting the gardens on our farm to building my own sleep-out with power, water, internet, kitchen and a fireplace, and eventually converting and extending it into a professional sound studio for my older brother. I've also worked as a contractor working on projects like installing a water and drainage system on an orchard, many bathrooms, kitchen and bedroom renovations in houses, cutting down trees, installing electrical, plumbing and power generation systems, and working on cars, pumps and tractors in the workshop. More recently I've been renovating the hostel that I first stayed at when I came to Rotterdam, redecorating the whole place and installing a new bar and kitchen. I'm your all-around handyman! If you have a job that needs doing then chances are I'm your man, and if I don't have quite the skills you're looking for I'm a quick and diligent learner with an attention to detail and a thirst for knowledge.
Outside of work I love learning the different natural sciences, about space and technology, doing photography and listening to new music, and I absolutely adore cooking and trying new foods. More often than not though I'll be working on some new project making something like a water collection device or a new extruder for a 3D printer. Who knows what's next! But more than anything I love making new friends and going on adventures - nothing means more to me than my friends and the times we share together.
I hope to meet many of you lovely people through Couchsurfing, and I would love to hear from you so send me an e-mail and we can get to know each other!
