About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Live life, connect with people and enjoy every day

ABOUT ME

I'm on a journey. Like many a traveler this started as a purely physical one, but has gradually changed my outlook on life and set me off on a deeper, more meaningful journey.

As long as you respect my right to independent thought and opinion the I don't mind having them challenged. After all, that's what cultural exchange is really about.

Curiosity and seeking fun is what drives me to go out there and see the world.

I'm a vegetarian. Not through any real moral objections though, I was raised this way an it kind of stuck.

PHILOSOPHY

I strive to push myself past my comfort levels and seek out new and interesting experiences. This has driven me to do some pretty crazy stuff, but I wouldn't live any other way.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'm still a 'beginner' to CS - having stayed with just a few hosts. However over the next few months I plan to surf as much as possible and so this number will likely increase pretty quickly.

One day, when I have a proper home and a proper job and a proper life of my own, then I'll host many a traveler to pay my debt of gratitude to the CS community.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Couch Surfing to me is about cultural exchange. Meeting and staying with real people. Real people that live, work, eat, sleep, laugh, cry, love, hate, wonder, fear, seek truth. Sharing experiences and having our life stories temporarily running in parallel.

Interests

Many things interest and fascinate me. In terms of 'hobbies':

- People: Interaction, humor, sharing stories. Just meeting people and making a connection, one of the greatest pleasures in life.
-Food: Middle Eastern and Turkish cuisine has to be my favorite. But then I also love Thai and Indian. I love learning to cook great recpies so I can share them with others.
-Lanugaes: What's the point in going to all these beautiful, wonderful places if you can't interact with the people who live there on at least a basic level. I always try to learn at least a few words/phrases from each place that I visit, and often manage more.
- Adventure sports: Diving, climbing, kayaking, wind surfing, sky diving. I do these whenever the opportunity arises.
- Meditation: I try to meditate every day. This one I'm definitely still working on.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

- Witnessed the protests in Istanbul, June 2013. 3 days of being tear gassed and chased by the police, but the atmosphere was electric.
- In Cairo just after President Morsi was ousted, July 2013. Being in a crowd that was fired on by the military really put into perspective what the Egyptian people were facing.
- Mt. Huangshan, China. I climbed up this mountain with 2 Norweigans and a Greek guy. Close to the summit and a lightning storm began. Lightning struck less than 2 m from me and electrocuted me. One of the craziest and luckiest experiences of my life.

Teach, Learn, Share

I am fluent in English and speak French to a conversational level, so I'd love the opportunity to speak to people in either of these languages. Maybe I could help you to learn some English, teach you some basics in French or even pick up some other language myself. I also love to cook so I'd be happy to share some ideas, food and learn some recipes from other countries.

Countries I’ve Visited

China, Egypt, France, Germany, Hungary, Israel, Italy, Jordan, Netherlands, New Zealand, Palestine, Serbia, Spain, Thailand, Turkey, United Kingdom

Countries I’ve Lived In
