Overview
About Me
I am a trained astrophysicist, now working in data and IT, and dreaming of a better world. I have lived and worked in Sheffield for 9 of the last 10 years. In between undergraduate and post-graduate studying I spent a year working and studying on the sub-tropical island of La Palma, then 6 months travelling in New Zealand and Europe. I have just returned to the UK after spending 7.5 months cycling through South America.
I love hiking, cycling, playing board games and Green politics.
Three things I don't like (for balance):
- wasted food
- when people tell you things they've already told you
- crumbly cheese
Everyone should be equal. Everyone should be happy.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I have been WWOOFing a few times in other European countries (working on organic farms, or similar, in return for food and accommodation). It's a great experience, and I'd love to do more.
I have hosted a few people and surfed with a few others, but still have many more people to meet!
Interests
I've recently awakened my political and campaigning spirit. My political views are definitely left-wing, and I am always interested in discussing and working on ways we can make society a more equal place for everyone. I also have a passion for sustainability and the environment, and hope to ultimately find a lifestyle and career that reflects this.
I love being outdoors, hiking, cycling, scuba diving, camping, road trips, watching movies, playing guitar, board games, dancing, folk music, juggling, discussing politics and sociology, solving math problems, building stuff, playing frisbee and watching sunsets.

Music, Movies, and Books
My music tastes are wide and varied including rock, indie, jazz, brass band, funk, dub, reggae and country, alternative, folk and folk rock. My current favourite artist is Cosmo Sheldrake.
I read anything from classic novels, to sci-fi, to politics. I’m currently very much enjoying The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafón.
With movies I’m fairly easy to please, and enjoy dramas, action movies, romances and sci-fi. I am however a giant wuss and would never choose to watch horrors or thrillers.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Cycling the northern section of Ruta 40 in Argentina, up to 5000m altitude with 40kg of touring bike and gear, and my dad!
Teach, Learn, Share
I know lots about astronomy and professional telescopes, and climate change, and would enjoy sharing this with you.
Other things I enjoy doing and will happily share with you:
Playing guitar (badly)
Juggling
Dancing like a maniac
Board gaming
Cycling up hills
