About Me

Hello! My name is Liam Arthur and I am a student from Dunedin, New Zealand. I'm 19 years old, currently studying politics and science, with a great love of travel. Last year I was on a gap year working in a restaurant in Australia and volunteering on farms and hostels in Europe and Asia. Food is my greatest passion and I love to learn about other cultures' food as I travel. I am also a great lover of the outdoors and nature, i like to go for walks and see wilderness areas. I also enjoy retro music, gardening and the occasional bit of writing! I look forward to meeting you and learning about your way of life.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm on couch surfing because I would like to get a more authentic perspective on your way of life in your country. I feel the greatest treasure that travelling has to offer is meeting new people from different ways of life, and I feel couch surfing is a great way to do this.

Music, Movies, and Books

I enjoy a wide range of music from folk to hard rock to jazz. Some of my favorite artists are The Beatles, Van Morrison, Howling Wolf, Frank Zappa and Led Zeppelin. Some of my favorite movies are Good Will Hunting, The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, Good morning Vietnam and Forest Gump. I really enjoy reading books about food and culture, but also enjoy reading fiction and poetry.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

One of the things I've done which I think is the most interesting is spending a month on Pitt Island, New Zealand. This Island is extremely isolated, with the ship from the mainland coming only once every three months, and with a population of only 40. I had an amazing month there horse riding, hunting and camping.

Teach, Learn, Share

I really like to learn about other people's way of life, learn the language and also learn about the local food and delicacies! I think it would also be really cool to learn about any local music or literature [if that is possible!].

What I Can Share with Hosts

Always happy to share my cooking skills with the hosts. As a chef, one of my favorite things to do is cook and share food with other people.
