About Me

***
Please do not send requests 1-3 days before your actual arrival date. We need time to rearrange our plans to receive you, so please let us know at least 4-5 days in advance.
***

I was born in Moscow, Russia, and after graduation from Moscow State University I moved to Trieste, where I graduated with Ph.D. in Cognitive Neuroscience at SISSA.

In life I am generally guided by the rule "act toward others as you desire them to act toward you".

BTW, if you wish to contact me for some other reason (other than CS, I mean), don't hesitate to write me at my email: first letter of my name, then my surname, at gmail.com; or find me on Facebook.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

My wife Anna (http://www.couchsurfing.com/people/anna_sergey) and I host people at our place in Trieste when we can and surf during our travels.

We hosted many people and surfed at many places and have yet to experience a single disappointment. I hope this community stays strong and I will do my best to support it and fuel it with new great people.

Interests

Professionally, I am interested in science and what is related to science, programming, technology and education.

My hobbies include volleyball, guitar, singing, and playing videogames.

Music, Movies, and Books

I don't have strong preferences in either movies or music (though Pink Floyd probably stands out for me).

Regarding books, nowadays I mostly consume audiobooks, since it is much more convenient. I like non-fiction scientific books, e.g. Damasio, Ramachandran, Bernard Green, Hawking, Dawkins, and so on. Recently, I got a bit into urban fantasy. Here is my profiile on Goodreads: http://www.goodreads.com/user/show/20572109-sergey-antopolskiy.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Moving to study in another unfamiliar country, which language I don't even speak, was the most intense thing I've done so far.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can explain you probably anything in biology, and brain science in particular, and I bet it wouldn't make you sleep :) I am also somewhat knowledgeable in math and statistics, and in computer programming.

I am curious about many things, I love to ask people about their area of interest. I enjoy discussing everything from international law to blacksmithing, especially with a specialist. I like to learn new things.

Countries I’ve Visited

Argentina, Austria, Belarus, Chile, Croatia, Czech Republic, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Israel, Montenegro, Netherlands, Portugal, Scotland, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Ukraine, United Kingdom, United States
