About Me

CURRENT MISSION

to raise my children to healthy and happy adulthood, and to simply enjoy the second half of my life.

ABOUT ME

I work in two schools as a Teacher-Librarian but my first love is History, which I taught at the local high school for several years. Martyn, who is from New Zealand, is my partner. He imports, converts and complies American RV's for registration in Australia and New Zealand. He is very mechanically minded.

Our home is very active, with family and friends coming and going often, especially in the summer when the pool gets a major workout. It is not a quiet retreat : there is usually something happening here. Although I am happy to have people of all ages stay with me, they should be aware of the kind of place this is!

PHILOSOPHY

Hmmm, not sure exactly what my personal philosophy is, but I do have an overwhelming feeling of responsibility for my children and am working hard to provide them with what they need until they are old enough to venture off on their own.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

For the moment, I am happy to host CouchSurfers. Guess I'm wanting to build up my credits for the future when I will want to CouchSurf myself. I particularly want to return to Scotland as my first and only visit was many years ago and in the winter. My g-g-g grandfather John Turnbull came to Australia in 1802 from the Hawick district. I have other Scottish ancestors from the Isle of Coll and also Bonar Bridge, in the north. Visitors from Scotland, or those with an interest in History, are particularly welcome!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have only recently begun having CouchSurfing visitors, but I have hosted overseas students in homestay for many years now and currently take students who study at the English Language Centre attached to our local university, Southern Cross.

Interests

Reading, History, Family History, the United Kingdom, Europe, my family, conversation, Myers-Briggs personality types, understanding myself, others and the world.

Music, Movies, and Books

I enjoy almost all music but not heavy metal or rap. If you can play guitar or any other instrument for me, so much the better! As for books, it might be best to say, "what don't I like"? The list would be far shorter. And movies - I seem to like blockbusters with lots of action!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Giving birth.

Teach, Learn, Share

As a Librarian, I love to research and I rather immodestly pronounce, I am quite good at it these days! I enjoy finding out things I don't know about, so by all means, stimulate my curiosity with something unusual.

I am extremely interested in theories of personality type, in particular but not limited to Myers-Briggs, and can talk about it forever! I am an ISTJ.

Countries I’ve Visited

Australia, Austria, Egypt, Fiji, France, Germany, Greece, India, Indonesia, Israel, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Malta, Mexico, Monaco, Netherlands, New Caledonia, New Zealand, Singapore, Switzerland, Thailand, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, United States, Vanuatu, Vatican City State
