About Me
I am currently travel through Colombia on a 5 month trip! I like to travel slowwww. Right now I'm in Manizales and I would like to hike in Los Nevados National Park and go to the hot spring but would ideally like to do it with someone or a group.
I have already been in Colombia for 2.5 months in which time I volunteered on a farm in Barichara for a month and worked for myself online in Medellin for another month whilst taking spanish lessons. Mi Espanol es malo pero I'm trying and would like to practice more.
I am a clean and tidy person, I always ensure to respect a place as if it were mine, I appreciate the generosity and trust you have to welcome newcomers into your space. I really love meeting new people and immersing myself in new lifestyles and communities. I enjoy finding out about our shared experiences and learning from our differences. I also am very independent and can happily be left to my own devices!
I can adapt to pretty much any environment it seems and thrive in the new and unexpected. I have travelled and lived all over the world and have many a tale to tell! From motorbiking across Vietnam from Ho Chi Minh to Hanoi like an extra from Mad Max, to being handed an adorable Indian baby and accidentally becoming an adoptive mother for a 15 hour train journey from Varkala to Madurai, to formally meeting and greeting every member of a very large Sri Lankan family with a handshake and song exchange whilst chest high in the waves off a beach in Unawatuna. I love sharing travel tales and learning about peoples different experiences, getting tips and learning a thing or two along the way.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
To practice my Spanish, gain local knowledge, make friends, have fun, explore and to share a cultural exchange!
Interests
Travelling and seeing the world has been my driving force for the passed 4/5 years. For me it's about getting to know people from all walks of life, exploring beautiful lands and immersing myself in new cultures, I relish new experiences and living on the edge. I can speak a bit of Spanish but my current goal is to improve it with the intention of moving around Spanish speaking countries for the next few years.
I studied Art at University and love to be creative; whether its hand embroidery, making costumes, tattooing, pottery or working with wood. I worked in the creative industry for a few years in fashion and jewellery making after my degree but soon realised it wasn't what I wanted to do and since then have had a huge array of jobs from asparagus farmer, to English teacher to furniture maker and much more in between!
Creating delicious, healthy cuisine for people with inspiration from all over the world is also an absolute passion of mine. I have previously worked at a vegan restaurant in Antwerp, Belgium where I learnt to cook many incredible recipes that I would love to share with you. Before corona I was living in Vietnam teaching English for over a year, I learnt to make many authentic and nutritious local dishes from there such as pho, pineapple rice, tomato tofu etc. I love cooking for new people, learning from them and sharing cooking inspiration!
Aside from that I love going to gigs of all genres, dancing, drinking beer and enjoying life with good company.
