About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Chart the course for my next half century....

ABOUT ME

I have enjoyed an eclectic life of wide-ranging experiences thus far, and anticipate and welcome more! I am currently living in the hills of West Virginia and exploring the Appalachian Mountains.
I welcome with an open-heart the privilege of getting to know people from all classes, races, religions, ideologies, creeds, cultures, colors, socio-economic circumstances, genders, sexual orientations, etc.

PHILOSOPHY

At this point in my life, I am looking to live a life of GIVING to (as much as and in whatever capacity that I can) rather than taking from the world; I believe there is nothing more important than our caring for each other.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

While I have only hosted one person officially through couchsurfing, I have hosted many travelers throughout my adult life. Also, I have been talking Couchsurfing (the organization) up among my friends as a potentially exciting and fun way to make friends (surfing and hosting), learn about new places and cultures, and travel worldwide. Many are excited to learn of the community as well; a few are cautious/dubious.... I aim to disprove the naysayers!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I joined couchsurfing as a way to enhance my engagements and interactions with local people and cultures while I travel. While not a member of couchsurfing at that time, during my years living in NYC, New Orleans, San Diego, et al, I hosted countless friends, friends of friends, and folks previously unknown to me. Those were invariably most delightful experiences as a host for me.

Interests

LEARNING (first and foremost): I have an insatiable curiosity about life/the world/people, wide-ranging interests (nature, org gardening, photography/film/art/music/lit, cult anthro, comparative/tribal religions, travel, etc). and believe wholeheartedly in the goodness of humankind and life. I am a "soul-searcher" by nature, but equally love getting to know other souls as well.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: Naked Civil Servant, Bicycle Thief, Cyrano de Bergerac (G. Depardieu), Gummo, documentaries, anything about the Cosmos
Music: classical, new age, ambient, tribal, some pop, experimental, disco-EDM
Books: bios, novels, texts, sacred, poetry, short stories... too many to list

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Spending a night in the middle of the Anza-Borrego desert surrounded by several coyotes and millions of stars; performing a St. Saens organ concerto with a professional symphony orchestra; hiking up a Native American holy mountain with dancing butterflies leading the way.... OOPS - it only asked for ONE amazing thing.....

Teach, Learn, Share

Hope to teach AND learn tolerance, patience, appreciation for differences, and to more deeply appreciate the amazing, brilliant variety of the world. Taught middle school English, math, reading comprehension, and social studies and tutored for university entrance exams (US) for many years (still volunteer for GED prep); cooking; music basics
Specifically would love to learn more about making pictures (paint/photo/film), languages (French, German, Spanish, Mandarin, Arabic), Mysticism, music, esp piano and theory/composition(former saxophonist, bassoonist, and melodic percussionist), finance and investing, tarot/astrology as energy systems and theory of randomness, writing..........
Share my love of words, trivia, food/cooking, reiki, conversation, enthusiasm for life, spelunking the soul/consciousness

What I Can Share with Hosts

An earnest ear, a meal or beverage, an exchange of ideas, reiki/Swedish massage, a laugh, a tear, a walk

Countries I’ve Visited

Bulgaria, Canada, France, Greece, Iceland, Italy, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Spain, Turkey, United Kingdom, Vatican City State
