About Me

CURRENT MISSION

great conversations, beautiful buildings, good wine - on a student budget

ABOUT ME

I'm a social lady looking to explore the world a bit more. I'm interested in music, food, conversation, and learning about the local culture - not tourist traps. I love couchsurfing - so many amazing generous people in the world!

After graduating I worked in the Middle East for 3 years. Just wrapping up my fieldwork for the PhD in the Palestinian Territories and I'm full of stories.

I enjoy sitting with a coffee and people-watching, having a drink, deep conversations about politics and psychology, running, and gritty neighborhoods. I don't shy away from a late night out, and I love eating. Also museums.

Just started a Mysore Ashtanga practice about 3 months ago so I'm one of those annoying people who will go on and on about yoga if you are interested. I'll hold myself back if you aren't.

LGBTQ-identified and friendly.

PHILOSOPHY

That which is harmful to you, do not do unto others

Constant rebellion against absurdity.

Oh, and get shit done.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've met some incredible people surfing across Europe - shoutouts to Madrid and Berlin! <3 I can also talk about WWOOFing, had a life-changing two weeks on a farm in Italy last summer.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have a lot of friends who love Couchsurfing and am excited to participate, meet new people, and travel.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: American Beauty is like my movie icon. I really liked Inception, and American Hustle and American Psycho were both excellent (seeing a theme...?) That said, House of Cards is the best thing I've watched on a screen recently and I adore it.

Music: I'm a music addict and constantly on the prowl for new stuff. At any given time I might be listening to Arabic mahragan (I just discovered it's perfect for energetic writing!), AlunaGeorge, Disclosure, Alt-J, Diplo, or Italian opera, or medieval choir music. Or a This American Life podcast.

I'm a PhD student studying imprisonment, so... Foucault, of course, Camus, Hannah Arendt is my idol. I read and enjoy fiction too but it doesn't stick with me as long.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Jerusalem during the football World Cup - dead silence across the Old City, and then every goal a roar would rise up from the cafes hidden between the churches, mosques, and synagogues.

Teach, Learn, Share

Ask me about my Evernote workflow for writing, how to use that cooking spice you've never heard of, how to lift really big things and put them down, how to train for a marathon, or where to travel in the Arab world.

Countries I’ve Visited

Greece, Israel, Lebanon, Palestine, Russian Federation, Switzerland, Syrian Arab Republic, United Kingdom

Countries I’ve Lived In

Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Palestine, United Kingdom, United States
