Overview
About Me
CURRENT MISSION
to make strangers seem less strange, to escape mundane routine as often as possible, and to be nice :)
ABOUT ME
We owe our marriage to the bicycle taxi. We met while both working in the bicycle taxi business in San Diego. We owe our parents large sums of gratitude for helping us to become happy yet grounded people. I (Jimmy) owe so much in student loans that we aren't moving to Brasil until my debt is paid :( Hopefully that will be sometime between the next World Cup and the next Olympics. We love to cook, camp, travel, and explore and blend cultures.
PHILOSOPHY
Life is too short to be negative all the time. Life is too long to endure numbing routine.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
We have surfed in San Francisco and Costa Rica and are on the verge of hosting for the first time. We attend Dallas couchsurfing events when we can.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
What started as meeting interesting people at local CS events has turned into meeting great people in other cities and countries. We love spending time with people from all over the world and exploring rather than strictly checking off items from a guidebook checklist.
Interests
Lila: I grew up in a very big city and I love the art/night life/street scene that it can offer! On the other hand I have the need to spend weekends around nature, camping, chilling and appreciating the outdoors. I love photography, art, music, yoga, or just having a beer with friends. Those work as therapy for me!
Jimmy: I love trying to play different musical instruments (attempts include drums, guitar, ukulele, keyboard, bass, cuica, and soon melodica). I love unplugging from the modern world and walking out into the wilderness hiking and camping. I also love seeing live music, photography, videography, exercise, and good conversation.

Music, Movies, and Books
movies: open your eyes, into the wild, the cove, persepolis, my left foot, waltz with bashir, i'm sam, corpse bride, all Wes Anderson, most Alejandro Amenabar, most Coen Brothers. music: Beirut, Devotchka, Manu Chao, Seu Jorge, Marisa Monte, bossa nova, samba, reggae, forro, and music that blends genres
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
While back-country camping in Joshua Tree a few years ago, we heard a loud humming noise in the distance and ducked just in time as a huge swarm of bees flew over our heads. We stayed hunched over for several seconds as the bees passed by. We will never forget how loud it was, and after they passed... silence.
Teach, Learn, Share
Lila: I can help you with your Portuguese. I like to learn about the differences and similarities between cities, regions, countries, and cultures.
Jimmy: I can help with basic Spanish. I know a few songs on the ukulele and guitar. I love to learn about history, international politics, and expressions in all languages.
