About Me
Hello there, or how we say in northern Germany: Moin moin!
I'm Lilja, 22 years old and born and raised in Hamburg, Germany.
I moved to Düsseldorf in 2016 to study Japanese and English literature which I will finish within the next year (hopefully!!). Learning languages is probably my main hobby and even though I can only speak a few words in some of them, I will try my best to communicate in yours (or whichever you prefer) and improve my skills :)
Four years ago I made a promise to myself that I would leave the continent every year until I turn thirty - so far it has worked out! Even though I tend to return to Japan, I truly enjoy seeing everything this world has to offer and learning about strangers lives. There are so many stories out there!
But when I'm home I spent a lot of time reading, writing, running, petting dogs and working so I can book my next trip.
I'd love to meet you and learn about your home or reasons for traveling the world :)
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
When I started out my travels I spent a lot of nights in hostels, not realising that it made actual contact with the country and locals more difficult. Living with locals is probably the most personal and authentic way there is and I can even meet amazing people along the way! Sharing experiences is so much more fun.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I went to the Grand Canyon with a group of travellers and we climbed a bit farther down on a rock that was completely free standing except for a small path at the back. So we sat there, legs dangling off the edge, watching the Grand Canyon turn orange during sunset :)
Teach, Learn, Share
I'd love learn about your language, whether I have spoken it before or not! But of course, I'm especially interested in improving my Japanese as I want to be able to use it for my future job.
If you like I can teach you some German words or help you a bit with English.
And I'm also very interested in your culture, way of life and thinking; I'm always up for a deep conversation.
What I Can Share with Hosts
On my travels I have collected a whole bunch of weird, funny and absurd stories.
Let's have dinner and I will tell you a few!
If you have a dog I'll also become his best friend, I promise!
