About Me
Hi! I used to work in film but I recently finished a master's degree in social work and I'm starting a new career as a therapist soon. I live in New York City with my partner and our rambunctious dog, Tuesday, a pit bull mix we rescued from the street one day while we were walking through the neighborhood.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I met a couch surfer a friend hosted on a camping trip in July 2015 and it seemed like an amazing community. Since then I've couchsurfed in Copenhagen, Istanbul, Amsterdam, and New Orleans and met some amazing people :)
I've had the chance to entertain and host a few travelers, and I'd love to share my city with others in the future! I'm also hoping to travel more in the next few years while my work schedule is still flexible.
Interests
I originally studied English and Film, and I love to consume/analyze everything in both high + low culture. I love to cook, eat, host parties, swim, and connect with people.
There's also nothing I love more than food, so I'm eating my way through NYC. I love to cook and experiment in my own kitchen and I host regular dinner parties. Cooking for other people or eating food specifically prepared for you is such a fantastic way to establish intimacy and friendship. I like inviting a collection of people who have never met before, who I've met very briefly but seem interesting or cool, and bring them all together to talk and learn about each other.
Music, Movies, and Books
Music: My Bloody Valentine, Solange, Le Tigre, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Best Coast, Eartha Kitt, Lil Nas X, Lana Del Rey (love her most recent album)
Movies: Harold and Maude
Books: Play It As It Lays, Fun Home, The God of Small Things, The Picture of Dorian Gray, We Need to Talk About Kevin, anything Toni Morrison -- for fiction!
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Camped in Northern California. I've spent most of my life in urban areas where it's hard to see the stars. But for the first time in my life, at 16, I saw an unpolluted night sky and it was breathtaking.
Rode an icebreaker through the fjords from Sweden to the northern tip of Norway. It was a scientific research vessel going to the Arctic (I had to get off in Norway). The scientists threw a party the night before the ship passed into the Arctic Circle. If it was your first time you had to go through all kinds of initiation rites, like wearing your underwear outside your clothes. People dressed up as King Neptune, etc., and we ate Princess Cake.
Biked through a Christiania, a village within Copenhagen that exists outside of Denmark's system & is thereby governed by their own laws. A delightful & strange art/hippy village. Everything is beautiful there.
Any wild night I've had in New York City. This city has a completely unique way of picking you up whooshing you out into the world. You can start somewhere for the evening and go to seven different places you never would have expected. You never know where you're going to end up and that's the magic that keeps me here. Everyone lives on their toes. I don't think I could live any other way.
What I Can Share with Hosts
