About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To get more sleep... But being awake is so much more fun!!

ABOUT ME

Right now I'm not really based anywhere. I'm working all over the UK and living out of my suitcase. It's a bit complicated!

My heritage is mixed and I moved a lot over my entire life - in fact, I was taken on my first international move at 7 weeks old! I feel like the whole world is my "home", and I have always had a desire to explore the world and its many cultures. It's something I can never get enough of! :)

I mostly grew up on Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada, and I truly love that place. Although I left Canada in early 2008, this magical island will always feel like home. I lived in Western Australia for 8 years, and have been based in Europe since 2016, but am considering moving back to Canada... I try to visit at least once a year.

I would love it if I had the funds to backpack indefinitely. Unfortunately I have a sickening mountain of debt (thanks university), but still try to travel as much as possible.

PHILOSOPHY

"Life Won't Wait"
Take your opportunities as they come, before they pass you by - you never know where they will lead!!

"Strangers are just friends you haven't met yet."
I also believe in trusting strangers, and assuming the best of people until there is proof to think otherwise. Treat people the way you would like to be treated.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Although I am "homeless" at the moment, I have done a bit of hosting before (both official CS and non-officially) and it has been very enjoyable. I think it is a great way to meet like-minded people, with a spirit to help their fellow traveller along their journey :) What goes around comes around!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I had an awesome host in Copenhagen (Sara), lovely hosts in Northern Ireland, and I "un-officially" couchsurfed in Sumatra too!!

Hosting Roxanne and Etienne from Quebec (at my old house in Australia) was one of the funnest/funniest weeks EVER!! I kept forgetting that they were here as Couch Surfers - it really felt like I just had a couple of old friends come for a visit!

Interests

Almost anything outdoors - kitesurfing, snowboarding, mountain biking (DH especially!), trail running, scuba diving, but also team sports like field hockey, soccer etc... I would like to spend more time learning to surf properly...

I love to cook, but am by no means a pro... I am also a vegetarian/wannabe-vegan with a weakness for cheese.

I love photography, reading, and learning in general. I love animals and conservation. I think Earth is an amazing place, and I'd like to see people looking after it a bit better! There is magic in all living things if you take the time to see it.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Backpacking through China and SE Asia for 6 months with my sister in 2007 was just the best... There are so many highlights, I couldn't begin to explain them!! It was an amazing experience that I wish never had to end.

I also backpacked around Indonesia alone for 7 weeks in 2008 and was blown away by the hospitality of the Indonesians, especially in Sumatra where I was constantly welcomed into the homes of people I'd only just met. It is so inspiring when people who have nearly nothing offer you food and shelter on your travels, knowing that you have some degree of wealth to have traveled there in the first place... It is humbling, and puts things in perspective.

Teach, Learn, Share

I was taught to spin poi when I was in the Gili Islands, but since then haven't learned much more... I can't seem to learn off the internet (just from real people?!) so I'd love to meet some people who can help me learn more moves - and of course if you've never tried them, I can teach you the basics!!

I am terrible at languages, but would love to improve my Spanish, and revive my long-dead high school French.

I would love love love to be able to play the guitar.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Stories? I have a terrible memory so I'm actually an awful story teller, but I love to discuss all things travel and learn about the countries and cultures I'm in. I can share with you conversation and an interest in your life, and won't just show up, sleep on your couch, and not interact with you... unless you prefer that of course!

I am also happy to cook a meal together, or at the very least I can come armed with a bottle of wine!
