Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

A wonderful idea with couch surfing. Gives me new ideas of possible future travels, which I intend to explore. Also, to offer my couch to travellers passing through Hudiksvall

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Have both surfed and hosted. All very pleasant and fun experiences!

Interests

Water - on it or in it! Diving, windsurfing, canoeing, swimming, UW-rugby, UW-hockey, fishing, boating, sailing.
Sports - volleyball is an all time favourite.
Books - I always have to have one book going. Science fiction, thrillers, fantasy, true crime, you name it and I'll read it!
Animals - have two dogs and like to activate us all, with game trail tracking for example or skiing or biking with them. Horses - my sister has one, which I take out for a tour in the woods now and then.
Travels of course, meeting people and finding friends all over the world.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Snorkeling with wild dolhpins - it was so beautiful that I cried in the mask. It had been a dream from my early teens and was realized 25 something years later.

Another of a different kind, was when on a train in the UK. The seat next to me was free and this man, who looked drunk and possibly also homeless, aimed for just this seat and sat next to me. Just my usual luck, I thought. After a while he ordered a cup of hot tea and had great problems with the lid. Now I realized that he was lame in one arm. I figured, if I didn't help him out, I would probably end up with all the hot, scolding tea on me. I offered to help and took the lid off so he could pour in the sugar. After that we started communicating. We didn't talk, as he was deaf and mute. But with sign language and body language we "talked." He was indeed a little drunk, after having celebrated just getting out of prison. He was on his way to his home town, Glasgow and trying to stay out of trouble. We "talked" about things great and small and really had a good conversation. He liked my little dolphin pendant and was going to try and get one for himself as a good luck charm, hoopefully keeping him out of trouble.

When we arrived in Glasgow, we both got off and wished each other good luck. This lady, from the same train approached me and said in a mildly sarcastic manner "you certainly had an interesting travelling experience."

And indeed it was, but not in the way she intended. I had truly enjoyed this mans company and communicating with him. It was a memorable moment, with a chance encounter where two people from different backgrounds met and came away richer.
