About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To enjoy traveling, meeting others, and discovering other cultures

ABOUT ME

I am a 59 year-old female, mother of two grown daughters, and lover of art and everything beautiful in the world. I love traveling and want to make a habit of dedicating my summers to new adventures and travels. I am a high school art teacher and feel that the more experiences I treat myself to, the more I have to teach my students about the world around them. I am an easy going person who smiles and laughs often, and loves to have a good time with others. I enjoy good conversation and learning about others and what their lives are like.

PHILOSOPHY

I like to live my life simply and take time to enjoy the small things in life. I love nature and being outside - walking, hiking, swimming, and discovering the beauty around me.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I am hoping to be an active member in Couchsurfing! I'm proud to be a Maine resident - it's really a beautiful place to live and I would love to offer my couch to other travelers!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have had four couch surfing experiences so far, and hope to have more! A young Alaskan, Ariel, spent the night on his trip across America! Had a great time, and he even came to my school and spoke to some high school classes about his journey.
Ironically, the second couch surfer was a wonderful young lady named Ariel from North Carolina!
No, you don't have to be named 'Ariel' to couch surf at my place!
I also hosted the father of a young woman who attends prep school nearby. Wonderful guy! He made a lovely dinner for me and his daughter.
One of my more interesting guests was a cool guy, Keith, from California who was making a cross-country trip on his motorcycle with his mini dachshund, Rossi. Very cool person who has become a good friend!

Music, Movies, and Books

I am very open-minded when it comes to music. I love listening to world music, blue grass, folk, rock, alternative and reggae. What mood I am in dictates what I listen to! What I am currently listening to includes: Florence and the Machine, The Decemberists, Ray Lamontagne, The Civil Wars, Ani DiFranco, Damien Rice, and Patty Griffin, Chet Faker, 70s and 80s rock.

I love foreign films and have been trying to catch up on some American classics - just saw "Gone With the Wind", "To Sir With Love", and "Paper Moon". Absolutely love action and suspense movies like "Bourne Identity" and "Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" (series)

Currently reading "How to Be Good" by Nick Hornby.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I have had the wonderful opportunity of traveling across the United States in a van with my two daughters; I have motorcycled the West Coast with my buddy, Mark; I have been to Paris several times to visit my French penpal, Isabelle, to whom I have been writing since I was 12 years old; and I spent a wonderful week in the Ardeche region of France on an art fellowship at a magical place, Les Tapies.
The summer of my 50th birthday, I attended an art workshop in Chiusi, Italy and enjoyed sightseeing around Tuscany and Umbria. Most recently I spent a week in beautiful Ireland this past April with close friends.

Teach, Learn, Share

I love Maine and the Maine coast, and make a great tour guide for scenic and fun local spots that others thoroughly enjoy.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I am a good conversationalist and listener. I am a fairly good cook...although I'd rather take a host out to dinner! ;)

Countries I’ve Visited

Canada, England, France, Ireland, Italy

Countries I’ve Lived In
