I love action and adventures books. I translated many of this kind. I love how authors describe scenes and atmosphere that go deeply in your mind, creating a symbiosis with the book and the characters. I don't have a book that impressed me, but I has been particularly struck by the ancient books because they describe the actuality but in other words. So, I think the world never changed, it's only another form you're seeing now.
