About Me

I am Liz, maker of things, baker of cookies and raconteur of bad jokes.
Hailing from Vienna since 2009, originally from Southern Germany, and been to some places in between.

So what's to tell about me?
I am a trained tailor, fashion designer and marketing person but I dabble in all kinds of (creative) things. Overall, I'd describe myself as open minded, creative and curious.
I am into all kinds of creative things, arts, culture, design, diy, dancing, geocaching, music, concerts, food (cooking/baking/feeding people with mostly vegan food), nature, sustainability, traveling, being outside, bouldering (still only indoors), and big fluffy dogs.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I registered again after a decade of absence because I think it's a great opportunity to get to know people and an easy way to get insight into new places.
Traveling for me is not about being a tourist, but about experiencing other people's realities and about exchange.

Also to be honest, I am just between jobs and my bank account balance is slightly on the low side so the financial aspect of couchsurfing is a perk as well.

Music, Movies, and Books

music is what brings me through the day - every day.
I grew up with oldies, rock'n'roll and later on punk rock, but in general I like music with a drive to it, not so much depending on the style itself. These days I am mostly into stoner / psychedelic / blues rock, but I also enjoy punk, ska, prog rock, synthwave, new / dark wave, classic hard rock, metal, singer/songwriter, and some contemporary classic. Whatever fits the mood.

I love live gigs and if you're interested I am more than happy to accompany you to concerts or give tips on locations and/or events.

As for other media - for me it's books over movies - whilst I do enjoy watching movies and obsessing over series, they just don't compare to the experience of reading a good book. My favorite authors include Neil Gaiman, T.C. Boyle, William Gibson these days, and in general I enjoy reading both fiction and non-fiction, crime/thrillers, dystopian, science fiction for the former and psychology/philosophy/history/culture/politics/sustainability related books for the latter. And sometimes there happen to be graphic novels in my book pile towering next to the couch as well.

Movies - I am not much of a cineast to be honest, so trying to discuss movies with me is not the most fulfilling thing if you are really into this kind of thing. :D I enjoy a good movie nonetheless - so recommendations are welcome. ^^ As a rule of thumb I am more of a geek, enjoying scifi, (urban/dystopian) fantasy, mystery, absurd humor, weird things, dark stories and action packed movies, but also documentaries and cartoons.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

just one? ;)

Teach, Learn, Share

First off - exchanging stories and insights is one of the perks of meeting new people, so I'd say we could share stories and time if we feel like it. I enjoy meeting new people and listening to their stories (and stealing their super secret cookie recipes).

Being a craftswoman, I can support you in most things textile/garment related.
I can also give a bit of support when it comes to artsy stuff, having dabbled in different techniques and media in the past. Or just share stories about those times. :)
As a native speaker, I can also help if you are learning German or need help translating.

I am pretty much always in for trying out new things and experimenting. Someone once said I am the inquisitive type and this is also true when it comes to learning new skills - I love to dig into new areas of knowledge.

Oh, and naturally I can show you around Vienna and give you tips on venues for live (rock) music and cultural events as well as for good vegan food places. ;)

What I Can Share with Hosts

Stories, bad puns and deep conversations :)

Plus I love to cook, bake, and feed people. Naturally, I am happy to do so as a guest, too.
(I cook mostly vegan, having lived this way for some years now, but vegetarian is ok for me, too. No prob if someone else is having his steak next to me, my general rule is: don't judge me and I won't judge you - I believe in free will and responsibility for one's own actions)
