Overview
About Me
I am a biologist, and I am passionate about a lot of things in the environmental sphere. My family lived overseas when I was young, which certainly made me interested in travel and meeting people from around the world. I am Canadian, but went to high school in the United States and it is interesting to have the perspective on both places. I have travelled a lot in western North America, road tripping.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Meeting new people is the spice of life, and one of the things I enjoy most about travelling. I have welcomed friends of friends (and the occasional random traveller) to stay at my place over the years, so couchsurfing doesn’t seem like that much of a stretch.
Music, Movies, and Books
My music taste is a bit dated, I have an enduring love of the oldies (think Motown and rock and roll). On my playlist I have a lot of Genesis, Roxette, Damien Marley, Buju, Fela Kuti, Julieta Venegas, and Allison Krauss and Union Station. I also have a list of 80s and 90s movies that are my favorites (I own a VCR and have ‘em all on VHS). I read a lot and I love classic literature- my favorites are Thomas Hardy, Nancy Mitford, John Steinbeck (but mostly am re-reading their stuff at this point). In term of modern authors, Anita Shreve is my current favorite and for a light mystery I read Alan Bradley.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Uh…assisted a study on social spiders in Ecuador (tropical forest). Was a pretty fun summer.
What I Can Share with Hosts
Hopefully some good company! I love to learn about where people are coming from and different experiences that they have had and I generally find that makes for interesting conversation. I am friendly and up for exploring.
