About Me

ABOUT ME

I am the nerdy/artsy type! I am intellectually curious and I love good conversation, but I also love a quiet night with a book or a paintbrush. I dig museums, good food, long walks, constant music, making things. I'm a working artist; my paintings that are inspired by Medieval manuscripts, and I love Medieval music and mysticism. I've been a modern dancer, a pilgrim, an art student, a slide librarian, the only punk rock kid in a horrible suburban town, a poet, a painter, a high school teacher, though not in that order. I like showing up in new places and talking to strangers. Above all I love laughter.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I like meeting interesting people and hearing their stories. I'm not very well traveled (though I'm working on it), so maybe I like to live vicariously! It's always inspiring to hear all the amazing and crazy things that people have done.

Interests

Art, art history, illuminated manuscripts, music (I've got seriously varied taste), good books, good food, good whisky, good people.

Music, Movies, and Books

Too many to put in a text box. The Clash, Guillaume de Machaut, Hank Williams, the Pixies, John Lee Hooker, Dinah Washington, Benjamin Britten, Carlo Gesualdo, Depeche Mode, Johannes Brahms, Johnny Cash; Star Wars, Blade Runner, the Princess Bride, anything Alfred Hitchcock; 1984, Point Counterpoint, the Chronicles of Narnia, A Clockwork Orange, the Scarlet Letter, Keep the Aspidistra Flying, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?, The Name of the Rose, A Tale of Two Cities, 'Til We Have Faces, Crime and Punishment... I can keep going all day with the books. It's almost embarrassing, except it's not, because nerds are awesome.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

The pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela.
Hanging out with Joe Strummer one night in a bar in Brooklyn when I wasn't legally old enough to be in the bar. (If anyone's wondering, he was every bit as awesome as you'd hoped.)

Teach, Learn, Share

I am actually a teacher, so if you want help with grammar or math or any of the other fascinating stuff that's on the SAT, GRE, ACT and all that fancy business... Somehow I don't think that's why people are on Couchsurfing. I love love love sharing knowledge, and I want to learn anything that I don't already know. I like learning about other cultures, especially in terms of art and food. Don't worry; I won't really try to teach you math.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Good conversation and a whole lotta laughs! I love trading stories.
