About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Learning new things, meeting new people, seizing the amazing opportunities each day brings.

ABOUT ME

I'm a gregarious and outgoing social butterfly. I like to keep busy and learn new things. I love exploring any city I'm in and learning the lay out.

I commute everywhere by bicycle. It's part of my day to day life. I can usually get access to spare bikes, so if you want to go on a ride, you'll have wheels.

I've worked in a lot of different fields, including theater, music, coffee, banking, sales, pedicabbing and music.

I'm considerate and loyal to my friends. I like doing things for the folks around me.

PHILOSOPHY

There's something to be learned from everything. Treat people how you would like to be treated. Learn from your mistakes and triumphs, then move on.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've had a whole bunch of folks stay on my couch over the last 10 years.

Over SXSW (March 2011 + 2010) I had anywhere between 3-25 people staying in my house or in tents in the yard.

I regularly host musicians and travelers. I currently live with 2 other people and a cat, so I confer with them before confirming a couch surfer. They're pretty chill and travel as well.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

My favorite experiences always involve the people I meet. Having great conversations, learning about what makes other people tick, and sharing favorite past times/hobbies is super cool.

Everyone I've met from CS is rad.

Interests

I love music, art, theater and anything that involves writing or literature.

I produce and host open mics and shows. I like combining artists that may not typically play shows together and mesh them in listening room environments.

There's nothing better than witnessing the moment a performer captivates a room for the first time.

Music, Movies, and Books

My favorite writers: Ginsberg, Cummings, Vonnegut, McMurtry, Miller, Orwell, Kundera, McCarthy and I recently fell in love with Bolaño.

Top 5 favorite books/things I've read: Lonesome Dove, Howl, Slaughterhouse Five, 1984, Unbearable Lightness of Being.

"We're not our skin of grime, we're not our dread
bleak dusty imageless locomotive, we're all
beautiful golden sunflowers inside, we're blessed
by our own seed & golden hairy naked
accomplishment-bodies growing into mad black
formal sunflowers in the sunset..." - Sunflower Sutra by Ginsberg

Crosby Stills Nash & Young, Fleet Foxes, Ani Difranco, Robert Johnson, Bob Dylan, Arcade Fire, and LOTS of local/independent artists. Favs: Raina Rose, Matt the Electrician, Brown Bird, Dana Falconberry, and Nic Walker.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

My car broke down on the Mississippi River bridge in the middle of some terrible storms. Two tornado's crossed the Ol' Mississippi into Vicksburg (where I was staying) for the first time in 100 years that day. I was driving solo and it was both terrifying and amazing. The kindness of the people I met in Vicksburg made a lasting impression on me.

That solo trip at a young age did a number on me. I'm addicted to travel. : )

Teach, Learn, Share

I've played piano since I was 5 and like to teach beginners. I'm a nerd for everything coffee and love talking about coffee culture from seed to cup. Also, bike maintenance basics!
