About Me
I've hosted travelers long before I signed up for (or heard of) Couchsurfing. When I lived in Odell, Illinois, my home was on a cross-country bike path, so I would meet cyclists passing through. I hosted a young women cycling alone from coast to coast (1990). Her story opened my eyes, giving me the courage to do a road trip (in my car) of my own from Chicago to Los Angeles (2010). I blogged about it and that started my writing and publishing adventure.
For the last few years, I've focused on writing, editing, and publishing. I started an independent book publishing company a little over a year ago (May 2017). We focus on non-fiction in the genres Social Justice & Ethics, Gender & Sexuality, and Spirituality & Mental Health. We have 6 books published and several more ready to be launched in the next 45 days.
I currently work from home and don't get out much. When I force myself away from my computer but have to stay in town, I prefer to mingle with the arts crowd here in Pontiac. I'm a member of the Community Art Center and attend the monthly social events there. The Saturday morning "farmer's market" is a favorite part of my weekly routine.
I'm a mother to a grown son and a grandmother to his 3 children. They (and my wonderful daughter-in-law) live about 90 minutes from my home and I see them once a month or so.
No hate in my home. LGBTQ-safe/friendly. Socially and politically, I'm progressive/liberal.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I've hosted travelers and I've traveled. The interactions always expand my thinking in ways that enrich my life. When I went on that road trip, I stayed with family and friends along the way. I enjoyed seeing how people live and being part of their routine for a few days.
