About Me

I am currently a college student, working various jobs to make my way through with a double major in Outdoor Studies and Environmental Studies. I have enjoyed Couchsurfing.org, because while my studies don't allow me to travel as much as I would like, it allows me to host and meet new people. This helps me feel like I am experiencing different parts of the world, without actually leaving my town.
That being said, there is plenty to do in Alaska. I like to hike, bike, camp, backpack, kayak, fish, etc. I love being outside as much as possible in the summers to make up for my hermitage in the winters. I still run and ski outside in the winters, and it's amazing.
I have not been able to host anyone the last couple of years, because the people I live with are not comfortable with the idea. However, if you are visiting, and need a tour guide, ride, want to meet for coffee, give me a shout. I love new people!

Interests

I have a hard time sitting still, so I'm constantly doing things. I like trying new things. I went and played kayak polo for the first time the other day. I like to play guitar. I love hiking. I love bike touring. I love traveling. I love being outside.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

1. I went flying in a Cessna 172 for the first time the other day, and it blew my mind. All the houses looked like Monopoly pieces. Anchorage, where I have lived for years, looked like a totally different world. I got to hold the controls and fly the plane. It was terrifying, invigorating, and empowering. That was one of the most amazing hour I've had the privilege to experience.
2. When I was in Italy, after finishing the Cinque Terre hike, I got to witness an amazing event. An entire side of a mountain was on fire. Someone's terraced vineyard was burning into an oblivion. I got to see a plane scoop water into it's belly and bring it up to the mountain and eventually put out the fire. The plane was accompanied by a helicopter that had a big bucket on the end of a long rope. The helicopter would lower the bucket into the ocean, fill it, and then bring it up to the top of the mountain, drop the water, then repeat. It took a while, but they finally finished putting out the fire. It was amazing!
The hot Italian firemen weren't half bad either...
3. How do you top those first two? No clue... When I make a new awesome memory, I'll get back to you!
4. I hope to add "finished college", and "bought a house" to this list in the near future.
