Chi sono

Travelling Jun-Jul: Türkiye 🇹🇷 > Albania 🇦🇱 / Montenegro 🇲🇪 / Kosovo 🇽🇰(Peaks of the Balkans) > Portugal 🇵🇹 > Namibia 🇳🇦

Not looking for places to stay, but would love to meet up with interesting people.

I love the cultural exchange from meeting with locals, broadening my understanding of their lives; but also the interesting and honest perspective that outsiders like expats and long-term visitors living in a place bring; and yes, the fun of meeting with travellers, us both outsiders with curious eyes learning about a new place.

I'm independent, nerdy, outdoorsy, open minded, always up for an outdoor adventure, and always making friends from new places around the world. Let’s go sightseeing, go for a walk, grab a drink or a bite, and talk the night away!

I get along really well with people who prioritise experiences over consumerism; maximising fun over getting more shiny things. (If you've pooped in the woods, we'll probably get along). I value and have respect for many different opinions, but if you're homophonic, anti-feminist, or (even slightly) racist, I don't think we will hit it off.

I paraglide ( usually I travel with my gear, it's 80% of my luggage), write, make music, hike, and run-ish long distances in my spare time :-) Been living part-time in South Africa and Mexico City the past few years.

PHILOSOPHY

I have 1000 months to live. I have to make them count.

Perché sono iscritto su Couchsurfing

I often attend CS (and similar) events in the cities I visit. I am very independent, so I mostly get apartments or hotels (or a tent, in the wild) when I'm travelling.

I dislike that the majority of interactions --with locals when you travel-- are transactional in nature. It's nice to talk to people, but something is off when you always close the conversation by paying for a meal, a room, or something from a shop. I'm always looking for more local friends, travellers, and expats/remote workers.

Interessi

I'm no particular order: paragliding, traveling (I've lived outside South Africa most of my adult life), music (almost all genres, in composing it and just listening to it), literature (too many authors to mention), running (I’ve done a few ultramarathons, but recovering from an injury so only doing shorter city or trail runs), digital media (graphic and audio design; the new art...and something I can actually do), art and museums, beer (making it and drinking it) and politics (not tied to a specific country or party, that is).

Musica, film e libri

Not the biggest fan of Hollywood movies, but I watch about one to three artsy films per month. I love music: the creative process of creating it, but also the act of consuming it (which I do, all the time).

Una cosa incredibile che ho fatto

I once created a nonexistent/fake DJ duo with my friend, applied, and got invited to perform at a Taiwanese music festival.

Cosa posso offrire ai padroni di casa

I know a bit about composing and producing music, I play a few instruments (the guitar, bass, keyboard and drums) and I've produced/engineered a few songs. Happy to give feedback on electronic, indie, and rock music.

I speak a couple of languages (Afrikaans, English, flailing Mandarin Chinese and a smattering of Spanish). I used to be an English teacher, so I'm pretty good at helping out if you want to practice :-)

I really like investing, money, and personal finance (topics that most people feel uncomfortable discussing).

I can cook decent Chinese food (I lived in Taiwan and China), but I'm an EXCELLENT sous-chef to help chop things as needed for your cooking 😜
