About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To make the world a better place to live in!

ABOUT ME

Bonjour! Hello! Hallo! Hej! Hola!

Hmm, I could try to say 'hello' in many different languages, but I assume that would take more than just one page. I'll stick to 'hello', as I assume that most people will understand that ;).

Hi, I am Litje, originally Chinese, but born and raised in The Netherlands. I knew of the concept of couchsurfing before, as I have some friends who are couchsurfers themselves, and have even couchsurfed myself two times, but for some reason only decided now to make a couchsurfing account.

I am a happy person, who loves spending time meeting up with friends and making more friends throughout the world. I always find it tricky to describe my personality, so let me put it this way: friends would say that I am...: cheerful, positive, hospitable, kind, intelligent, considerate, helpful, social, adventurous, enthusiastic, ambitious. Hmm, in a way this description is biased, as there is a reason why they are your friends, right? Should perhaps ask non-friends next time how they would describe me :P

I care a lot for people who are marginalized, stigmatized and/or treated badly in society. My special concerns go to women in low-income countries. I even moved to India to make a change. That was so exciting! In the future, I hope to continue to contribute to empowerment of these people and positive changes in society.

In my spare time, I love reading, watching movies, listening to music (Hindi music!), undertaking cultural activities such as attending musicals, visiting museums and historical places. And not to forget: I love travelling! I have been to quite a lot of places in Europe, but I hope to discover more countries of the other continents.

Any questions that I haven't answered yet? Please drop me a note and I am happy to tell you more about myself!

Meet you perhaps in the near future?

Au revoir! Tot ziens! See you! Nos vemos! Adeus! Auf Wiedersehen!

PHILOSOPHY

I am a caring person who wishes the best for everyone and wants to contribute in any way to empower those ones who needs our help the most. I have done quite a lot of voluntary work and will continue doing that. To me, the best present you can get is a thankful person, who shows you how happy they are just because you added something small to their lives. I get happy when I see happy faces around me. I don't take things for granted, and work hard to achieve things that are important and significant to me. Although perhaps idealistic, I hope to make the world a better place to live in ;)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

When I have time, I'd like to meet people during couchsurfing meetings and get in touch with the locals of my travel destinations!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I hosted two people from Switzerland before and couchsurfed one time in England and one time in Austria. At that time, I did not have a couchsurfing account but these people were friends of a friend of mine, who is a couchsurfer. It's so interesting to talk to people about what they're doing in life, what perspectives they have on certain issues, and what dreams and wishes they aspire. What I really like as well: they are locals, so they know how to go around in town, what to see and visit, and how to travel from A to B. I am amazed by how friendly, hospitable, and intelligent these people are, sharing whatever they have with you, even though you only know each other for some hours. Like I said before, you become friends in a very short time!

Interests

I am interested in gaining knowledge about human trafficking, the human psyche, and human behaviour. One day, I hope to work as a researcher and psychologist combined. I like eating out or having tea/coffee with friends, going out on day trips, reading books, watching movies, cooking, dancing, and music.

Music, Movies, and Books

I like different kinds of music, nothing in particular that would stand out. I listen to pop music, jazz, R&B, Soul, Hindi music. Considering movies, I like psychological thrillers, dramas, and romantic comedies. I like reading books about women's lives throughout the world.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Moved to Australia! I lived there for one year but had the best time ever! I travelled around and have seen most places there. I loved seeing the wild dolphins, wales, koalas, and kangaroos. I met aboriginals and learnt a little bit to play the didgeridoo, so cool! I tried snorkling and saw beautiful fishes in the ocean! (Ps. I am not fond of extreme sports, so didn't do bungee jumping or the like). I also moved to and lived in India! People there are so fascinating! I was amazed about the way they think and live their lives.

Teach, Learn, Share

I gladly talk with people about psychology, trying to figure out why people behave like they do, or feel like they do, or think like they do. I hope to become a better health professional and a better person by meeting people through couchsurfing. I am interested in sharing perspectives, opinions, and thoughts about life.
