About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Put a final spit-polish on Japanese and consume heaps upon heaps of quality media

ABOUT ME

Too wordy by far and fond of the smaller aspects of life.

If a little bit of knowledge is a dangerous thing, then I'm a dangerous soul indeed: though I don't know how well it truly describes me, but someone once said that to create a voodoo doll targeted to me, all you'd need to do is spill some beer and bicycle grease on a dictionary.

Yea, something like that.

PHILOSOPHY

A grab-bag patchwork golem concocted out of leftovers from the post-modern buffet lunch. I suppose the issues I care most about are consumerism as it impacts environment and culture, issues of gender and sexuality, and education (both formal and less-than-formal).

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Usually as a host, but I've done one or two fine outward-bound.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

The truth is, I've yet to actually surf on a couch, per se: I've floor-surfed and futon-surfed, but this "couch" remains a less real and more metaphorical thing, for me.

Interests

Reading, picking up and abandoning learnings, studying Japanese, persiflage, genteel bumbling, ferments, strolls, etc.

Music, Movies, and Books

Oh, you know: that one.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I'm never certain what to answer for this sort of thing. When I take it at its most cutting, it becomes almost meaninglessly personal. But answering more generally, I guess teaching myself Japanese from books and dogged perseverance.

Teach, Learn, Share

If you take a length of floss and tie the ends to form a loop, this loop is much easier to floss with and doesn't cut off the blood in your fingers.

If you don't have a corkscrew, you can still open a bottle by taking a wide-heeled shoe and gently but firmly slapping the bottom of the bottle: it'll force the cork to come out.

Ah, tidbits.

Countries I’ve Lived In

Canada, Japan, New Zealand, Thailand, United States
