About Me

CURRENT MISSION

..Explore Japan, learn from others, learn about myself. Teach, make art, teach, make art...

ABOUT ME

I'm considered a trusting and likewise trust-able human being who finds interest in just about anything. Specifically I find myself most inspired by:
Nature
Music (all kinds),
Art and creative expression
Photography, printmaking, painting, drawing, etc etc

Culture of any kind
Travel
Geography
History, stories in general

Living in a small midwestern community (Hays has about 20,000 people when college is in session) has given me a strong sense of wonder because life here is quite simple. After growing up in the Midwest and obtaining a college degree I moved to my wife's homeland, Japan and began a teaching career. Relocating in a new country and meeting the challenges therein with positive energy is my current mission in life.

PHILOSOPHY

Life is for living, I do my best to respect that truth in every moment of my existence.

Taking a day to lie down and think about life's wonders is a good habit.

And If I knew I was going to die, that is, very soon. I would very much like to wonder through a dense forest and breathe in all that earthly goodness one last time.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

As of now I'm considering getting another CS operation off the ground. I've been in Japan for over a year now and finally, my wife and I have our own living space that could potentially open up to surfers.

Also, I try to spread the word about this project whenever talk of travel strikes up during conversation with someone new.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

My wife and I spent a couple of days in Osaka, Japan with a fantastic host.

Also I hosted a few folks in my home town which always brought interesting people my way.

Music, Movies, and Books

Film: Waking Life, Documentaries, Kubrick, Kurosawa
Anime: Wings of Honneamise, anything from Miyazaki, Katsuhiro Otomo or Satoshi Kon

Music: All kinds, strong roots in videogame soundtracks. In high school I was turned on to classic rock and haven't stopped loving, listening or creating it.
I'm open to anything and consider my interests somewhat eclectic.

Lately I've been digging the work of Yeasayer, Phantogram and the Black Keys.

Books: one word...Kindle. Since moving to Japan access to English books has been slim in some cases. With a kindle I'm in business. I've been reading a lot of classics (currently loving Jack London's work). Always find myself digging into H.P. Lovecraft before bedtime and of course the good kind of "punch in the face" reading offered by Chuck Palahniuk has helped me reach a place in my own thinking that makes many little unnoticed moments of my life the most interesting little stories I've ever told myself...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

hmmm, recently the 10 days I spent with my wife in the Kansai area of Japan was considerably amazing.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'd like to learn about other peoples perspectives on life. I would profit from teaching others what I know about music, art and life experiences generally.

Countries I’ve Visited

Belgium, France, Germany, Japan, Netherlands, United States

Countries I’ve Lived In
