About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Figure out what I want from life. Pretty cliche, huh?

ABOUT ME

I'm about to embark on my first trip. I've done plenty of travelling before, but never on my lonesome. I'm both excited and anxious about this. I'm a Classics grad. I moved to NZ when I was 14, and have spent the past 8 years in and around Dunedin. I play guitar. I plan to busk around Europe (and hope I don't get arrested for doing so.)

PHILOSOPHY

Have some perspective, it makes life much more peaceful. At the same time, remember you only get to experience things once, so don't rationalise strong emotions away all the time. Even if you know you won't remember in five years.

Oh, and never be ashamed of who you are.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

*Cries* I haven't done anything yet. But I would love to show people around Dunedin.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

None as of yet, but I hope to change that! All I can say is that everyone has been very nice here, which is an experience I suppose.

Interests

Music. Can't live without music. If I'm not listening to it, I'm singing/humming/drumming with my hands/seriously anything that makes noise, usually somewhere I'm not allowed to. What can I say, it's a compulsion I have.

People. Books. Letters. Guitar. Anything. Really. If you want to tell me about your trained aardvark circus, I am totally cool with that.

Music, Movies, and Books

Any music with a brass section. Any movie with a happy ending. Books.... with strong capable characters and travellers. Books set in Greece. Debernieres. Tolstoy. On the Road. Zorba the Greek. The Secret History. Herodotus' Histories. Classic literature like Austen or the Brontes (but not Wuthering Heights, too depressing).

British comedy. We're talking Monty Python, Black Books, Black Adder, Red Dwarf and maybe even the Young Ones. I'm going to marry Bill Bailey.... ok maybe just gawk at him.

And Star Trek. Don't judge me. It's another strange compulsion I have. You know Spock is hot.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Living in New Zealand lets me see amazing things every day. (Seriously, NZ is so beautiful.) I've been here eight years and the view outside my back window can still take my breath away.

I've never met the Dalai Lama, I've never climbed Everest or Kilimanjaro, or any of the other hundred automatically amazing things people can do. But I have been to Mexico and seen a bright blue starfish a foot across while snorkeling in Rarotonga. I hope I have many more little experiences.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can knit. I can tell you about Homer. The history and myths of ancient Greece or Rome. I don't know about teaching the guitar, I've never tried to teach it before, but I could certainly start you off with good old C F and G. Rude Latin phrases. :) I know vegetarians are meant to be great cooks, but I'm not. So I can't teach you yummy chickpea curry recipes. (But I'd love to learn some!)
